This learning initiative provides an opportunity for postsecondary institutions to engage with high school students in experiential learning both on and off campus prior to full-time enrollment. By extending the reach of the institution to these groups of students there is an opportunity to establish an interest in postsecondary learning while helping to better prepare students for future student success.

 Success Rate:  85% of students who completed their dual credit course were successful;  Acceptance:  43% received acceptance to Algonquin College (232 students);  Registration:  61% registered into a level 1 program (141 students) **Many of our students take their dual credit in grade11 & 12 and may not yet be in a position to apply to college.

 I really enjoyed this experience  I want to come here next year!  I now believe that I can do it … I am not as nervous about going to college.  I think I have a better idea about what I want to do next year…  I never thought someone would believe in me… now I can believe in myself too

Student A took Introduction to Psychology in winter 2007(C+), then went on to graduate from ECE (Early Childhood Education, GPA 2.60) and is presently in the Developmental Services Worker) program.

Student B took “Trades Exploration II Lab” (final grade: B) in the winter of 2006, went into Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician – Robotics, and then switched to Mechanical Techniques – Precision Toolmaking and then graduated.
