COLLEGE ACCESS CHALLENGE GRANT Grant Implementation led by The University System of Georgia on behalf of the Governor’s Office. Grant Partners Include: 1.Technical College System of Georgia 2.Georgia Department of Education 3.Georgia Student Finance Commission 4.Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education 5.Communities in Schools of Georgia 6.Southern Regional Education Board

CACG GOALS 1)To increase the number of underrepresented students who graduate from Georgia high schools ready, supported and motivated to go into postsecondary education. 2)To increase the number of underrepresented students enrolled and persisting in postsecondary education. 3)To increase the college degree attainment of low-income adults with some college credits but no degree.

COUNSELOR TRAINING MODULES The College Access: Creating a College-Going Culture Modules were developed to provide high quality, online professional learning for certified middle grade and high school counselors and postsecondary enrollment professionals.  Understand barriers that cause students to disengage and strategies to mitigate them  Begin career awareness early  Use career interests and personal aptitudes to foster academic engagement  Help students develop an academic plan and make a smooth transition to high school  Help students understand college choices and the college application process Module IV: College and Career Advising for the Middle Grades

COUNSELOR TRAINING MODULES Register Online Now for June Registration fee reimbursed after completion of each module ($100). Stipend of $500 awarded to participant for completion of all three modules.

COLLEGE TEXTBOOK GRANTS Book Grants to dual enrollment students in Early College, Move on When Ready, and GED Dual Enrollment programs are available to fund college textbook costs not covered through Georgia’s dual enrollment funding. College Connections for Student Success Conference A Focus on Foster Care, Homeless and Other Disconnected Youth The “College Connections for Student Success” conference featured specialized tracks, plenary sessions and networking opportunities with the goal of improving outcomes for the children and families that we serve. It included a full spectrum of individuals and organizations serving Georgia’s disconnected youth, with representatives from: Community Organizations K-12 school districts, local and state systems focused on this population Foundations funding this population Government Agencies & Officials Higher Ed institutions The conference provided a forum to learn from experts, improve college success supports, services and outcomes in the field and network with other professionals who have a wealth of experience. Presentation tracks for those who work with the following populations were featured: Foster Care Youth Homeless Youth (Accompanied & Unaccompanied) Juvenile Offenders and children of Incarcerated Parents Migrants, Refugee & Immigrant Youth At-Risk African American and Latino Males Teen Parents
