Constructing A Plant Learning System Based On Web 2.0 Shu-Chen Cheng, Ting-Yun Huang Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Southern Taiwan University

OUTLINE 1.Introduction 2.Web2.0 Framework Of The Plant-Teaching Platform 3.System implementation picture 4.Conclusions 2-1. Plant Enquiry System 2-2. Web Learning Platform System 2-3. Mobile Learning Platform System

Introduction This research, in order to address the difficulties faced by the teaching of plant, we have constructed a plant teaching platform that implements an integrated mobile learning system of outdoor sensing technology, on-line video film-marking editing technology and plant enquiry system.

Web2.0 Framework Of The Plant-Teaching Platform

Plant Enquiry System The plant-enquiry system could be divided as two major enquiry methods : 1.Enquiry of feature value : System will let the user to select the feature found after observing the plants, it contains the information like leaf shape, plant height, growth environment, etc 2. Video image processing enquiry : User will provide the system with the plant leaf photo that he wishes to enquire. The system will conduct image processing against the given leaf and retrieve the leaf feature value.

6 Characteristics 1.Leaf Shape 2.Leaf Apex 3.Leaf Base 4.Leaf Margin 5.Leaf Phyllotaxy 6.Leaf Vein 7.Leaf Size 8.Tree Dwell

7 Leaf Shape Leaf Shape : Worked out the distance from the center point to the edge according to along 0 ◦ – 360 ◦

Leaf Apex & Leaf Base Leaf Apex : Worked out the distance from the center point to the edge according to along 0◦–180◦ Leaf Base : Worked out the distance from the center point to the edge according to along 180◦–360◦

9 Leaf Margin The characteristic of the leaf margin contains two quantitative values: the times and the total amount of leaf margin’s ascending and falling.

Leaf Size Length of leaf. Unit is 0.1 mm

Plant Enquiry System

Web Learning Platform System Web learning system Main function : 1.Teacher is able to edit his teaching materials, the location information could be added in as well. Then, packing the materials into a file. 2. Plant Enquiry System.

Mobile Learning Platform System Mobile learning system Main function : 1.Open web teaching materials conduct outdoor M-learning. 2. It is able to assist the teacher to do a outdoor collection of the teaching data. 3. Plant enquiry system.

System implementation picture

Conclusions In this research, we have overcome difficulties to study plants and build a complete study of the structure of plants, integration queries plants, digital learning, mobile learning, editing materials capabilities to enable plants become more easier to learn.
