Why the English Came Desire For Profit. Chance to own Land. Desire for Employment. Desire for Political Freedom. Desire for Religious Freedom. Desire for Adventure.

What did The English do when they got here 3 types of colonies (Developed between the –Northern (New England) –Middle –Southern –Frontier land Northern Colonies were fisherman Middle and Southern were Farmers (about 90% of the New Colonists were farmers

Colonial Social Classes Upper Class or Aristocrats New England Colony - Merchants and Clergyman Middle and Southern Colonies - those who owned large amounts of land.

Colonial Social Classes Cont. Middle Class - in all colonies Clergy, Farmers, Shop-keepers, Ships Captains, Carpenters, and Blacksmiths.

Colonial Social Classes Cont. Lower Classes - Servants Redemptioners - a person from your family or wealthy person would pay for your trip over in exchange for 2-4 years service. Indentured servants - Usually a single man between whose passage was paid by a wealthy individual in exchange for 7-10 years service. Slaves - the first blacks were actually indentured servants brought to Jamestown in 1619, but people began to keep them as slaves.

French and Indian War Colonization of the New World led the French and English to war against one another. The Indians helped the French because there were a lot fewer French than English England was doing poorly in the war until it asks the colonist for help (they told the colonist that if they won the colonist would get to expand further west). The colonists helped and the English won.

What happened after FI War England became the strongest nation in the world. But they wanted to tighten control over the colonies –Trade Regulations –Closing Western Lands –New taxes Colonists were not happy, remember they were told they would get to expand further west if they helped against the French. Also they felt they were being taxed w/out proper representation. These and other issues led to the American Revolution
