Put only a clean needle in a bottle (aseptic) Pull plunger all the way out Turn bottle upside down Inject air into the bottle (prevents “suction pull”) Draw liquid 1cc past the mark slowly Remove needle from bottle “Thump” air bubbles to top of syringe (no floaters) Eject air Filling a Syringe
Bevel up Barrel against skin Pull skin up if possible Insert needle to hub Inject slowly to minimize tissue damage Subcutaneous Injections (SQ)
Push in quickly Aspirate – make sure you didn’t hit a vein Inject quickly Make sure plunger is all the way down before removing needle Intramuscular Injections (IM)
