Welcome to Sir Thomas Boughey’s presentation…

What does our school do well?

Attendance!

At Sir Thomas Boughey we have a very good attendance rate. At Sir Thomas Boughey we have a very good attendance rate. We make sure that everyone knows why it is important to have a good attendance record. We make sure that everyone knows why it is important to have a good attendance record.

This is Joe Bloggs. He is in Year 7 and has 90% attendance. ► Is that good? ► What does this mean?

► Joe’s Parents think this is pretty good. ► Are they right?

► 90% attendance is the same as ½ a day absent from school every week. ► Or the same as 4 weeks absent every school year. ► Or…the same as ½ a year absent over 5 years!

► 17 missed days a year = 1 GCSE grade drop ► Pass – Fail?

The School Council came up with our own Child Friendly Attendance Policy. The School Council came up with our own Child Friendly Attendance Policy.

We have assemblies about attendance all week after every half term. We have assemblies about attendance all week after every half term. The pupils with 100% attendance get a certificate. The pupils with 100% attendance get a certificate. All the School Council members hand these certificates out on stage. All the School Council members hand these certificates out on stage. There is also a competition to see which tutor group has the best attendance and which tutor group is the most improved. There is also a competition to see which tutor group has the best attendance and which tutor group is the most improved.

We have an attendance display board which is changed every Wednesday to show all the school’s attendance figures. Our target is to get above 95 % attendance At the moment we are at 95.2 % which we need to improve on

Rewards! We get different rewards for attendance. Over the half terms we get certificates. If anybody gets 100% attendance for a whole year then they are invited to the school’s Awards Evening and they get free tickets to a Stoke City game! If anybody goes through the whole 5 years at school without a day off then they get a special attendance award.

Thank you for watching our presentation!
