Illustrations Why Jiang Zemin’s Regime Persecutes Falun Gong Falun Gong taught in public in May 1992 After the ruling of atheism in China for many years, Falun Gong, as a cultivation way for both mind and body, was a matter of controversy. Falun Gong’s existence and gaining popularity relies on the righteous path it has taken. Facts about the persecution by the Chinese media Atheism, narrow blind faith in science, totalitarian thinking, and fearing of many people Luo Gan directed Public Security Ministry to crackdown Central Propaganda Ministry’s crackdown He Zuoxiu attacked Falun Gong through media Facts about the support from Chinese media Morality increases Illness recovery and health improvement Benefits are significant Zhuan Falun was on the best seller list on Beijing Daily, Beijing Youth Daily, and Beijing Evening News in 1996 On September 21, 1993, People’s Public Security News reported that Falun Gong provides treatment for police who courageously fought criminals, the benefits are significant Stories about Falun Gong helping people to improve their mind and health were reported on Window of Arts, Workers’ Daily, Beijing Morning News, Guangzhou Evening News, Leshan Daily, Beijing Youth Daily, Shanghai TV, Guangdong TV, Shenzhen Star Daily, etc On July 1998, Chinese Economic Times reported in an article titled I Stand Up the miraculous recovery of the walking ability of a house wife, Xie Xiufen, in Handan Prefecture, Hebei Province from 16 years’ paralyzed condition after practicing Falun Gong. In later 1998, in response to the written requests from common people about the unfair treatment Falun Gong practitioners by the public security personnel, a group retired senior cadres headed by Qiao Shi conducted a careful investigation of Falun Gong for several months. The group concluded, “Falun Gong provides huge benefits to the nation and people, and has no single harm.” A report was filed with the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee by the end of the year. On October 20, 1998, the group leader sent to Changchun and Harbin by the General Bureau of Athletics and Sports of China to investigate Falun Gong affirmed the healthy benefits of Falun Gong and its positive influence on social civilization. The General Division of News and Press banned books related to Falun Gong On June 17, 1996, Guangming Daily first publicly attacked Falun Gong, followed by over a dozen media including Qilu Evening News, China Youth Daily. Media was guided to do so. In the beginning of 1997, the Ministry of Public Security attempted to collect evidence to frame Falun Gong as an “evil cult.” After investigation, all the Public Security Organizations throughout the country reflected that “No problem has been found.” Thus, the investigation was halted. On July 21, 1998, the first division in the Ministry of Public Security issued “Announcement About the Launching of an Investigation of Falun Gong,” framing Falun Gong as an “evil cult,” adopting a series of actions of “fabricating crimes first, investigation later” Grand appeal of 10,000 People on “4.25” On April 25, 1999, over 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners appealed at Zhongnaihai, the head quarter of the Appealing Office of the State Department. Premier Zhu Rongji met with practitioners. The Falun Gong practitioners arrested in Tianjin were released the same day. The practitioners departed around 9 p.m. Falun Gong asks for a peaceful practice environment Falun Gong asks for permission to publish Falun Gong books Falun Gong asks for a peaceful practice environment Is it wrong to be a good person? Isn’t the more good people the better? Jiang Zemin disregarded the voice reflected by these reports. Luo Gan withheld Zhu Rongji’s positive written instruction about Falun Gong and continued to interfere with the normal activities of Falun Gong Falun Gong practitioners trusted the government and expected the government to act on behalf of common people In May 1995, Beijing TV Station and He Zuoxiu slandered Falun Gong. In April 1999, He Zuoxiu again slandered Falun Gong in the Journal of Tianjin Education College. Practitioners went to the publisher to clarify the facts. The authorities sent out police to dispel practitioners and arrested 45. Falun Gong asks for the release of the practitioners arrested On the evening of April 25, Jiang Zemin wrote a letter to every standing member of the Political Bureau saying, “It will be a big joke if the Communist Party could not defeat Falun Gong. This letter was passed down as an official document. Jiang Zemin who talked about politics everyday had been long dissatisfied with so many people believing in “Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance.” Premier Zhu’s appropriate handling of the appealing of Falun Gong practitioner, which was well received, further touched nerve Jiang Zemin’s nerve Ascending to power by the Tiananmen Square Massacre in Jiang Zemin felt insecure about his position, was full of wariness toward any group that was not under his control, and desired to establish his authority by eliminating others Jiang Zemin wanted to establish his authority by cracking down on Falun Gong Falun Gong practitioners exceed the number of Communist Party members and many Party members and cadres practice Falun Gong. Jiang Zemin was very jealous about respect received by the Falun Gong founder On June 7, 1999, Jiang Zemin called “the issue of Falun Gong is the most severe event since the political disturbance in 1989” in a speech in a conference of the Political Bureau. The speech was dispatched secretly within the party on June 13. Jiang Zemin’s strong jealousy Jiang Zemin threatened other leaders that the party and the nation would perish and pushed millions Falun Gong practitioners, who wanted to be good persons, to face the government, with his ultra selfish attitude, “I don’t believe Falun Gong cannot be controlled.” He claimed to solved the problem of Falun Gong in three months The “610 Office of the Central Committee” was established on June 10, 1999, its function is solely planning and conducting a large scale crackdown on Falun Gong. The Dark July 20 On July 19, 1999, Jiang Zemin declared the case was closed in high level meetings to completely ban Falun Gong On July 20, 1999, the large-scale arresting of Falun Gong assistants and ransacking their homes started simultaneously The escalation of the persecution It is maintained totally on lies and concealment of information It has continued until now Jiang Zemin personally determined: 1. To hand a pamphlet that slandered Falun Gong to US president during Economic Summit 2. To frame Falun Gong as an “evil cult” during a press conference in France, and subsequently the new round of criticizing Falun Gong on the People’s Daily 3. To spread poisonous lies slandering Falun Gong during an interview by CBS journalist 4. To issue the order of “kill without mercy” to the Falun Gong practitioners who clarify the truth on TV in Changchun 5. To make the policy of “Defame their reputations, devastate them financially, and destroy them physically. …… Jiang Zemin Personally dashed into the persecution of Falun Gong Jiang Zemin planned to eradicate Falun Gong in three months, but this never happened. In the last five year, Falun Gong is still present and spreading widely overseas. Facing the peaceful, rational, none violent, and determined resistance of Falun Gong, Jiang Zemin’s slandering of Falun Gong becomes larger and larger, the crackdown is more and more brutal, the censorship of information is tighter and tighter. However, Falun Gong’s peaceful appealing won more and more sympathy and support from the world. Jiang Zemin’s crackdown became more and more unpopular. Now, Jiang, caught in dilemma and extremely shamed, keep walking down this dead end.
