Counters A, B, C, D A Gap counter – 20 Sally or 80 Sally Trap of the Buck, Jet, Rocket B Gap counter – Halfback Trap C Gap counter – CTXX D Gap counter - Truck

Counters

21/29 Sally The Sally is our number one counter play The sally is an A gap counter Sally controls the hard scraping inside linebackers Cannot allow the inside linebackers to make the play on the Jet and Rocket sweep.

20 / 80 Sally 20 Fullback down the midline Controls the inside linebacker Easier block for the fullback 80 Fullback fills for the pulling Tackle Tackle blocks inside LB Tackle must be a good athlete

21 Sally @ 7 vs. 4-4 Vs a 4-4 the center and the BSG will pass set on the nose. The center will block the A gap defender and the BS guard will set then block the B gap defender. The FB will run down the midline and block the most dangerous linebacker.

21 Sally @ 7 vs. 52 Vs a 5-2 defense the center will block the nose any way the nose wants to go. The guard and tackle combo the backer and end.

21 sally @ 7 vs. 4-3 Center and Guard combo the A and B

82 Sally @ 7 The difference between the 80 & 20 sally is the FB and Tackle Switch assignments.

23/27 Halfback Trap This counter is especially effective against a 5-2 defense. This is our B gap counter This counter is of the belly action. Even 4 technique tackles have difficulty squeezing the trap

23 HBT In Jet motion we like to trap back away from the slanting nose. If the backside defensive tackle does not squeeze with great technique we can really hurt a slanting defense.

Liz 623 HBT vs. 44

Liz 623 HBT vs.52 This is trapping back to the Tight End side away from the slanting nose guard.

33 & 37 CTXX C gap Counter Great counter off the Power and Jet Sweep Double Handoff sells the Sweep TE is athletic and can pull

137CTXX

Blocking Rules Blocking Rules 2 - Pull and lead thru hole 3 – On, hinge 4 – Pull and trap first man past 6 5 – Away, area, post 6 – Gap, post, lead, Backer 7 – Gap, lead. Influence

Important Techniques Hand position on second handoff Pull technique for guard TE or tackle drop step and getting on 2nd level QB follow for possible pitch Jet motion is quick

437 Jet CTXX vs. 43/44 Quick jet motion

437CTXX vs. 52 OT – influence pass set vs. 50

133 CTXX Tackles at different Level Read the guards block

433 CTXX vs. 43/44 TE blocks away vs. 50

Truck Truck is the reverse off the Jet sweep Truck is the only way we can counter to D gap The play is simply blocked like waggle run Slow scraping LB’s Halt invert coverage Stops running man with the jet back

421 Truck

Key Points Sent FB both ways by game plan End man on the LOS must decide whether he can reach block the tackle If the end man can reach #1 he will make a 6 call A 6 call tells our Guard the EMOLOS is blocking #1

6 call 9 call 9 call Te blocks down TE can’t reach 6 call TE can reach

421 Truck vs. 52 Can TE reach the 9 tech

429 Truck vs. 43

Blocking Rules 429 Truck blocking rules 2- Release RHB- On the snap of the ball run 3- Set through the FB heels and receive ball 4- Pull flat, Log or kick FB - Fill away for pulling guard 5- Reach, Away QB - Reverse, fake jet, give to RHB 6- Pull, Log or Kick SE - Stalk, Crack 7- Gap, Down, Reach 8- Reach, Cutoff

429 Truck vs. 4-4

429 Truck vs. 50

Variations – Crack or Stalk – We will crack if we get an inverting defense when the F/S is the alley player. We like to stalk when the team is playing 3 deep with no rotation Reach or Down block – Whether the end man on the line of scrimmage reaches or blocks down is of paramount importance. If the player inside the EMOLOS is not a threat we reach. If this player penetrates we must block down. Up formation – We use the UP formation to get a great SE the ball.

24/26 Trap This is and easy counter off the Jet sweep. This is our A gap counter Guards are selected because of there ability to pull and trap. The Jet trap complements the Jet sweep and the same manner traditional trap aids the Buck sweep

424 Guard Trap The Trap is the play that keeps the defense honest. This slows linebackers and stops the defensive pursuit.

424 Trap Blocking Rules 2- Backer, Cutoff FB – Stay on midline until receiving the ball 3- 1st backer from 5 bends to the right 4- Lead, backer, influence RHB – Jet motion, block backside chase 5- Away, post LHB – Block 3rd level 6- Pull and Trap QB – First two steps on the midline, boot at 7- Gap, backer, on at 9 8- Cutoff

424 Trap vs. 5-2

424 ON vs. 5-2

24/26 Gut We like Gut vs. G defenses with defenses tackles that chase our Jet Sweep. The spotter in the box what’s the DT when running the Jet and if they don’t squeeze immediately we will counter with the Gut

Odd Block When facing a 50 defense with a 4 technique tackles we like to odd block the 4 technique while blocking the nose any way he wants to go.

Liz/Rip 24/26 Trap Back We like to trap back with the fullback vs. 50 defenses. The nose usually likes to slant to our Jet motion and by trapping away from the nose we can sometimes run to and uncovered gap backside.

Trap back vs. 4/3

Trap back away from Tight End Our most effective trap play is back to the weak side defensive tackle. If he is aligned in a 5 technique this play is almost impossible to stop. The motion will initiate slanting techniques by the defensive line.

23/27 Halfback Trap This counter is especially effective against a 5-2 defense This is our B gap counter Designed to control the scraping inside linebackers This counter is of the belly action This allows our guard to block the nose alone 4 technique tackles have difficulty squeezing the trap

23/27 Halfback Trap The Halfback trap play is run best in 100/900 formation. It is a great compliment to the Belly XB to the split end side

Liz 623 HBT

Liz 623 HBT vs. 5-2 This is trapping back to the Tight End side away from the slanting nose guard.

21/29 Sally The Sally is our number one counter play. The sally controls the hard scraping inside linebackers. The sally is an A gap counter. If you let linebackers scrape hard, flat down the line of scrimmage they can control your outside running game. You cannot allow the inside linebackers to make the play on the Jet and Rocket sweep.

21/29 Sally Vs a 4-4 the center and the BSG will pass set on the nose. The center will block the A gap defender and the BS guard will set then block the B gap defender. The FB will run down the midline and block the most dangerous linebacker. This will usually be the backside linebacker.

421 Sally @ 7 vs. 5-2 Vs a 5-2 defense the center will block the nose any way the nose wants to go.

421 Sally @ 7 vs. 4-3
