School Meals: The Facts  School meals are safe  School nutrition professionals have rigorous training in food safety  School kitchens are subject to regular health inspections by the local health department.  According to the CDC, school kitchens maintain exceptional food safety records. Schools account for only 4 % of foodborne-disease outbreaks. (Food prepared at home – 20 %, Restaurant fare – 50 %)

“Make the Grade with School Breakfast”  NSBW 2015 reminds parents, students, and administrators that school breakfast helps students perform their best in the classroom!  Schools offer lots of ways to offer a healthy breakfast: grab’n’go options, breakfast in the classroom, and more.

Parents – Get Involved  Check out the cafeteria menu with your kids and discuss making healthy choices.  Join your kids for breakfast during NSBW or any time during the year.  Voice any concerns or special diets your kids have  Provide feedback and tell us how we’re doing

Administrators – Get involved  Visit the cafeteria during breakfast  Include presentations about the importance of school meals at PTA meetings and in the classroom  Talk about “Make the Grade with School Breakfast” during the morning announcements  If you’re a teacher, encourage kids to participate in the “School Breakfast: Before & After” Art Contest
