A Multi-Faceted Approach to Managing Abiotic Stress ●Among all the inputs required to grow a crop, none is more essential than water ●As fresh water becomes an increasingly scarce resource in many areas, new technologies are offering innovative solutions to help growers get the highest performance out of their crops with the least amount of water “Well capacities today may be half of what they were when irrigation began on a large scale in the 1950’s. We didn’t have a lot of water to start with, and the levels in the aquifer continue to drop, so farmers either have to cut their acres or use limited irrigation.” – Dr. Alan Schlegel, research agronomist, Kansas State University Classification: PUBLIC

Syngenta Irrigation Pilot Project ●Objectives -Deliver improved revenue by integrating: Crop inputs Water solutions Local services -Convenient, easy to implement solution -Tailored by operation ●Key Pillars -Maximized yields -Reduced operating costs -Minimized risk Classification: PUBLIC

Crop Inputs ●Researchers are evaluating the impact of weed, disease and insect control products used in conjunction with water-optimized seed genetics since, in general, the healthier the crop, the better it can withstand stress, including water deficiency -Herbicides Lumax ®, Lexar ®, Halex ® GT -Fungicides Quadris ®, Quilt Xcel ® -Insecticides Force ® brands -Water-optimized seed genetics Agrisure Artesian™ “We know these products work well individually. Now we’re exploring the total benefits of them working together.” Jon Blasing, head of integrated crop strategies, Syngenta Classification: PUBLIC. Force 3G, Force CS, Force ST, Lexar and Lumax are Restricted Use Pesticides.

●Syngenta researchers used their unique proprietary Gene Blueprinting™ process to develop Agrisure Artesian technology -Helps preserve corn yield during moisture-stress conditions without inflicting a yield penalty during favorable conditions ●In field trials, hybrids with Agrisure Artesian technology have delivered up to 15-percent yield preservation under moisture stress 1 -Trials were performed across a variety of water-availability levels, soil types and geographies “Water is precious in our area. I’m very excited about hybrids with Agrisure Artesian technology, because finding ways to use water more efficiently is vital to the future of my customers.” Justin Ochs, agronomy manager, Skyland Grain, Johnson, KS Classification: PUBLIC 1 Syngenta research trials,

Water Solutions ●Syngenta researchers are working with the Lindsay Corporation and leading university water specialists to study additional technologies that can optimize water use in crop production including: -Computer monitoring of irrigation systems -Soil-based water sensors to precisely monitor the crop -Systems to distribute fertilizer and crop protection inputs via irrigation pivots and other methods “The key is to find the best fully integrated solutions and then localize them for growers through our retail partners.” Jon Blasing, head of integrated crop strategies, Syngenta Classification: PUBLIC
