Health Status of Youth The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans report that an alarming 32% of American youth are overweight 17% of American youth are obese. This percentage is even higher among minority youth populations. Increased risk among youth for insulin resistance, hypertension, joint pain, early puberty, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders 20% of youth calories come from snacks with more fat and less calcium than ever before

State of Maryland 66% are overweight 7% of adolescents meet recommended daily consumption of fruits & vegetables 84% of high school students failed to meet recommended levels of physical activity

4 Key Questions How can we help youth shift to healthier habits to last a lifetime? How can we prevent eating problems and overweight youth?
