Online marking with Turnitin Assignments September 2013 Tracy Donelly, Turnitin Officer

Aims of this presentation:  Explore key functions of GradeMark  Demonstrate how it works in practice  Benefits for staff and students Overview

UWS currently has a number of technologies in place that allow electronic assignment submission. The two main providers are:  vUWS Assignment tool - wider range of files types  Turnitin - useful for text based assessments that require plagiarism checking GradeMark is a fully integrated extension module of Turnitin for online submission and return of student work. Electronic Assessment at UWS

 Add comments within the body of a paper (custom or from a bank)  Evaluating the assignment against qualitative or quantitative rubrics  Providing general comments (audio or text)  Offers a rich set of tools for clear mark-ups  Grades automatically recorded in the vUWS Grade Centre  Know which students have accessed their feedback Key functions

What does it look like…

Benefits for students are:  Students do not have to travel to and from campus purely to submit their hard copy assignments  Students will have access to online legible feedback which can be saved or printed Benefits for staff are:  Reduced administrative load for Schools (e.g. clearing I sorting I returning assignments)  Enables consistent marking across multiple marking staff / locations and eliminates repetition  Increased engagement between students and academics about their work  Off-line marking Benefits
