Year 1 LESSON PLAN DAY 1

Theme: World of Knowledge Topic: Things in the classroom Focus: 1. Listening and Speaking Content standard: 1.2 Pupils will be able to listen and respond appropriately in formal and informal situations for a variety of purposes. Learning Standard: Able to listen to and follow a) simple instructions in the classroom Objective: By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to listen to and follow six simple instructions in the classroom.

Activities 1. `Magic Box Game` 2. Teacher introduces instruction words - point, touch, walk, open, carry, take 3. Playing the game ‘Simon Says” 4. Pupils carry out instructions while singing a song **‘If You are Happy’ Teaching Aids: Relia, picture cards, word cards, LCD Teaching and Learning: Contextual learning, Mastery learning

Added Value: Pupils substitute the objects in the song with different objects and instructions (creativity)

Year 1 LESSON PLAN Day 2

Theme: World of Knowledge Topic: Things in the classroom Focus: 2.2 (Reading) Content standard: 2.2 Pupils will be able to demonstrate understanding of a variety of linear and non linear texts in the form of print and non print materials using a range of strategies to construct meaning. Learning Standard: Able to read and apply word recognition and word attack skills by matching words with graphic and pictures. Objective: By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to read and match ten words with pictures and with spoken words

Activities 1. Pupils look and read the words on objects aloud from the word cards. 2. Pupils match the word cards with pictures individually 3. Pupils point at five pictures on the board. 4. Pupils pick a word card from a box, read and match them to the pictures on the board. Teaching aids: word cards, picture cards, worksheets Teaching and Learning: Kinesthetic, verbal linguistic

Added Value: Pupils trace on dotted lines and colour the pictures.

Year 1 LESSON PLAN DAY 3

Theme: World of Knowledge Topic: Things in the classroom Focus: Writing Content standard: 3.1 Pupils will be able to form letters and words in neat legible print. Learning Standard: Able to copy and write in neat legible print (a) small (lowercase) letters (d) words Objective: By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to write 10 words of objects in the classroom correctly and neatly.

Activities 1. Pupils sing a song learned earlier in Day Pupils complete the song ‘If you are happy..’ with missing words. 3. Pelmanism activity- Pupils are given pictures and they spell and write the words in their books.(group activity) 4. Finding the words on objects in a word maze. Teaching Aids: worksheets, picture cards, LCD, laptop Teaching and Learning: Mastery learning

Added Value: Pupils find the correct words on things in the classroom from a word maze (diagonally, horizontally, etc)

Theme: World of Knowledge Topic: Things in the classroom Focus: 1. Language Arts Content standard: 4.1 Pupils will be able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes, poems and songs through performance Learning Standard: Able to recite rhymes, jazz chants and sing action songs with correct pronunciation and rhythm Objective: By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to sing a song by substituting the objects in the lyrics and perform in front of the classroom.

Activities 1. Teacher sings the song and pupils listen. 2. Teachers sings the song with the correct action and pupils follow. 3. Pupils sing the song with the correct action. 4. Teachers gets pupils to perform in groups Teaching Aids: lcd, lap top Teaching and Learning: Demonstration

Added Value: Pupils are able to change the action and objects in the song.
