Stop wearing contact lenses(Contact lenses change the shape of your cornea for up to several weeks)thus effecting baseline evaluation. The day before surgery, don’t use:creams, lotions, makeup, perfumes. Clean eyelashes(to reduced chances of infection)

First,a numbing drop will be placed in the eye and the area around it will be cleaned. A lid speculum will be used to hold the eyelids open.Next a Microkeratome is used to cut a flap in the cornea. The flap is folded back on its hinge, and the exposed tissue is dried.Laser energy is used to vaporize the corneal tissue, the flap is put back into position.A shield will be placed over the eye at the end of the procedure as protection.

The eye may burn, itch, or feel like there is something in it. The vision will probably be hazy, blurry, sensitivity to light, glare, starbursts or haloes around lights, or the whites of your eye may look red or bloodshot. On the first post-operative visit, the doctor will remove the eye shield, test the vision, and examine the eye. Avoid doing things that can harm the eye.

 About 5% of people experienced some complication in the 1990s.  However, if carefully selected surgical candidates the rate will be about 1%.  Even when LASIK complications do occur, they often can be resolved through laser re-treatments or enhancements of the eye.  It is very rare to have permanent worse vision then the vision before with with contact lenses or eyeglasses after surgery.

Difference using Microkeratome and IntraLase MicrokeratomeIntraLase Present more complicationsPresent fewer complications More difficult in people with prominent orbital rims and small eyes. Can be used in any person. Introduces sterility issues.Do not introduce sterility issues. Laser flap does not follow the curvature of the cornea and produces a flap without vertical edges. Laser flap follows the curvature of the cornea and produces a flap with vertical edges. The outer layer of the cornea may experiences trauma. The outer layer of the cornea experiences no trauma. Cut flaps that are between 100 and 200 microns thick. Cut flaps that are about 100 microns thick.

1.Incomplete corrections (undercorrection, overcorrection, residual astigmatism) or regression of effect 2.Decentered ablations 3.Oversize pupils (pupils wider than treatment zone) 4.HazeIrregular flap (folds, wrinkles, striae) 5.Dry eye 6.Diffuse lamellar keratitis 7.Epithelial ingrowth 8.Infection

Though lasik is a way to correct vision, there are other ways to correct them like. Wear glasses or contact lenses is a way. Lasik can expensive, a little risk is involved while glasses have no risk involved. However, Wearing contact lens or Glasses, each had their own drawbacks and advantages.

Some of the advantages of contact lenses and Glasses are: 1.Easy maintenance (Glasses) 2.Relatively low cost (Glasses) 3.Versatility (Glasses) 4.No change in cosmetic appearance (contact lenses) 5.More freedom during recreational and sporting activities (contact lenses) 6.Better peripheral vision than glasses (contact lenses)

Some of the disadvantages are: 1.High maintenance (contact lenses) 2.Easy to lose (contact lenses) 3.Risk of infection (contact lenses) 4.Change in cosmetic appearance (Glasses) 5.Restriction of peripheral vision (Glasses) 6.Interference with recreational, sporting, and work- related activities (Glasses) 7.Easy to lose or damage (Glasses) 8.Continual dependence (Glasses) Infection is more common with contact lenses than with vision correction procedures.
