CD Envelope an idea inspired by Joanne Buchs There are six pages in this document: The first three are for the front cover of the CD. The last three pages are for the back cover of the CD. In each case, this is a summary of the three pages: Page 1 -the template for cutting and scoring the pattern Page 2 -the template to be used on the computer to fill in the appropriate places for the outside title, backside contact information, and the inside greeting of the CD envelope Page 3 -a duplicate of the first page with LOTS of explanation Have fun! (a) INSTRUCTIONS: (Note these instructions may look complicated, but they really are super easy to follow.) After printing your text, use a pencil, ruler, paper cutter, and bone folder to prepare your CD envelope. Whether you stamp your envelope before or after assembling it really depends on your design. Instructions continue on the right with a) and b). 5-1/8” ON THE OUTSIDE: a) Notice that the vertical score line divides the front of the envelope with the title on the right and the demo information on the left (back cover of the envelope). The right title side is 5-3/8” wide vs. the left back cover side, which is 5-5/8” wide. Measure your card stock and score on the vertical line. b) The envelope is 5-1/8” in height. Measure and cut and score on the horizontal line. This is the pattern for a CD envelope, an idea inspired by Joanne Buchs. I modified the design and created the PowerPoint template, ebjCDEnvie4U.ppt, to enter the computer-generated information. THEN ON THE INSIDE: c)From the right bottom corner, mark 2-6/8”. d)Fold the front title cover toward the right. e)Cut on the solid diagonal line to the 2-6/8” mark. Pay attention! It’s easy to make the mistake and cut to the corner instead. However, the envelope will still work if you do. f)Cut the ¼” margin off starting at the top right corner of the card stock down to the horizontal score (fold) line. g)Score the remaining ¼” margin just right of the flap. h)Cut the ¼” fold line, thereby snipping off the ¼” margin. i)Fold the flap up. j)Fold the ¼” margin under (on the right of the flap) and glue to the envelope. The following is optional: With the CD envelope closed, mark where to punch 1/8” holes. Punch corresponding holes in the top and bottom covers. You may want to add eyelets. Add a brad or tie a ribbon to close the envelope. Voil ! You’re done! NOTE: The measurements are correct, but this pattern is not drawn to scale.
