Preventing Sewer Flooding In Homes and Businesses So, what causes the flooding problems? Solid materials flowing down sewer lines cause blockages – especially when getting stuck in root balls Hot fats and oils dumped in sewer lines, solidify and combine with other solid materials in the sewer water to form balls and this creates blockages Damage to downstream pipelines – for instance pipe damaged by construction equipment blocks pipe flow Debris swept along with storm water causes blockages in storm water pipelines Blokker Backwater Valve Information Slide 2

Main Sewer Line Blockage Residential Example Obstructions in main sewer line causing sewer water to back up into homes of higher elevation Blokker Provides protection Normal Flow Sewer Backup Sewer Lines Obstruction Backwater Flow Blokker Valve Blokker Backwater Valve Information Slide 3

Main Sewer Line Blockage Strip Mall / Condo Style Commercial Example Obstructions in main sewer line causing sewer water to back up into commercial units of higher elevation that have no backwater valve. How the Blokker Valve Came To Exist SecureLeak Inc. developed, designed, patented, certified and manufacture the Alarmed Blokker Backwater Valve on request of INTAC (previously ING) Insurance Company: Existing backwater valves were/are not reliable Leaking under pressure only keeping back solids Regular Service requirement by Licensed Plumber No pressure wave protection to prevent valve failure and flooding Do not comply with Canada Plumbing Codes regarding sewer line venting Residential sewer flooding causes Billions of Dollars in damage INTAC required reliable protection and early warning for the home owner INTAC required a valve with no regular service requirements INTAC required a product that would minimize their financial liability Blokker Backwater Valve Information Slide 5

How the Blokker Valve Came To Exist The Blokker Backwater Valve design parameters were as follows: Venting of downstream pipelines Providing sewer line venting as per Canada Plumbing Code requirements Releasing of pressure waves / surges through vent Easy installation, straight retrofit, inside or outside building Alarm warning/monitoring with high sewer line water level Second alarm warning/monitoring when Blokker Valve closes No regular inspection / service requirements between backups Special embedded seal to eliminate leaking at all pressures No obstructions / transitions in flow path through Blokker Valve Alarm warning for clogged mechanisms after backup situation Blokker Backwater Valve Information Slide 6
