TURKISH EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM Education in Turkey to a great extend, is supervised by the state. It is designed to produce skillful professional people for all institutes of the nation in all courses of life. The system is divided into three different stages. Each stage lasts four years and all students are obliged to attend all these three stages.

Kindergarten education is not obligatory but it is the state policy to enroll as many students as possible.

PRE-PRIMARY EDUCATION(KINDERGARTENS) Pre-Primary education includes the optional education of children between months who are under the age of compulsory primary education. Pre-Primary education classes are either state supported or private school classes with suitable physical capacity.There are also private day-centers, nursery schools, day care houses, child care houses and child care institutions.

The first stage begins at the age of 6 and finishes when the kids are 9. This is Primary Education.

Primary Education. Primary education schools provide 4 years of uninterrupted education. It covers the education of and teaching to children between 6-9 years of age. It is compulsory for all citizens, boys or girls. It is free of charge in public schools.

Then students are obliged to attend the second stage of the primary education. It also lasts four years.After this second four years they get a diploma. There are four core subjects; Turkish, Maths, Social Studies and Foreign Language. Foreign language education begins when they are fourth graders. The most common foreign language is English but some schools teach German, French. Some private schools teach two foreign languages at the same time.

The second stage begins when they are 10 years old and continues till the age of 13.This is the first part of Secondary Education.

The second part of the secondary education begins at the age of 14 and when they are 17 they finish it.

During secondary education students get general, vocational and technical education.It is also four years. The aim is to give students common knowledge on the subjects To prepare them for higher education, for a vocation.

General secondary education includes : High schools, high schools of science, teacher training high schools, and fine arts high schools.

Some institutions give vocational and technical education aiming to prepare students as manpower in business and other professional areas.

At the end of high school, students take the University Entrance Exam and continue their studies at a university.

Higher education institutions include: Universities Faculties Institutes Vocational higher education schools Conservatories Application and research centers

After the national university entrance examination organized by the national examing body students, if they succeed, continue with their studies at a university.

Graduate programs last a minimum four years. Some universities also ask for an additional year of English preparatory study to be completed before the start of studies.If want to study medicine,they have to have an education of at least 6 years.Engineering programmes are for 5 years.

The quality of education at the Turkish universities varies greatly, some provide education which are accepted by internationally renowned schools. Turkish universities actively participate in the Socrates - Erasmus program of the European Commission.
