AUP Acceptable Use Policy Summarized by Mr. Kirsch from the Sioux Falls School District Technology Plan

Network& Wireless Access Network & Wireless Access  The use of the network is a privilege – not a right!  No expectation of privacy or confidentiality  Not guaranteed to be uninterrupted or error-free (“as is” basis)

Internet Safety The District will operate a technology protection measure that blocks or filters Internet access of Information that is:  abusive  obscene  profane  sexually explicit  threatening  illegal or pertains to pornography The District shall make every effort to restrict this access to inappropriate materials and shall monitor the online activities of users

The District can review the subject, content, and appropriateness of electronic communications or other computer files and remove them if warranted, reporting any violation to the school administration or law enforcement officials. Disciplinary action may be taken against students whose electronic communications cause a substantial disruption to the education environment or interfere with another student’s rights. Criminal action may be taken against students if their electronic communications constitute a threat.

Proper Use  Do not disclose passwords  Do not intentionally damage equipment: this includes, hacking, creating, loading and/or sharing malicious software  Do not make modifications to District equipment  Do not use proxy sites to get around the filter Responsible for all accounts, regardless of whether access is gained w/out knowledge (immediately notify if suspect unauthorized access)

Ethical Use of District, Public, and Private Resources In Electronic communication, do not include anything that would not be acceptable face-to- face Do not disclose, use or spread unauthorized information of another person Staff shall not invite or accept current District students, except for the staff person’s relatives, into any personal social networking sites show consideration and respect when interacting with each other
