Small Balaton

Small-Balaton, as an extensive, uninterrupted wetland habitat represents a unique value in Europe. Small Balaton is part of the Balaton Uplands National Park.

Beside the till now observed nearly 260 bird species many other – partly extremely rare- species find their new home in this territory. Some of the species especially worth mentioning: root vole, mudminnow, weatherfish and also some rare dragonfly species.

Next to the village called Balatonmagyaród you find Kányavár island, which is open to the public and helps visitors to discover the ecology of the Small-Balaton and to experience the atmosphere of the swamp region. There are two lookout towers here. Some of the regional attractions are: Small-Balaton-House, Kányavár island, Buffalo Reserve of Kápolnapuszta, The Hut of Matula (a character of a Hungarian novel) or the tájház of Vörs.
