a well managed population for quality life Maternal Health and FP Every year over 6,000 women die due to pregnancy related complications (equivalent to over 10 KQ 787 Dreamliner planes crushing and killing everybody on board) Risk of death from pregnancy related complication; 1:22 vs. 1:8000 in the developed countries

a well managed population for quality life Ripple Effects of Family Planning FP is key to healthy timing of pregnancy ensuring healthy mother and babies With increased birth intervals, risks of deaths and complications to both mothers and child are reduced Longer birth intervals support healthy nutrition for children and mothers. It also empowers women by giving them time to engage in economic activities HIV infected couples can plan for pregnancy when viral load is low

a well managed population for quality life Conclusion Preventing maternal and child deaths requires broad interventions hence;  Investing in FP is a cost effective way of reducing deaths and complications  Increased human resource (especially nurses and midwives) to provide skilled services  Need for Increased resources to the health sector including for FP commodities
