SOUTH ASIA PHYSICAL, CULTURAL & HUMAN GEOGRAPHY REVIEW

NOTES ACTIVITY DRAW A LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE OF A SHEET OF PAPER. YOU ARE CREATING “CORNELL STYLE” NOTES WRITE THE WORD/WORDS IN RED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE LINE AND THE REST OF THE BLACK WORDS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LINE THE TITLE IS SOUTH ASIA CORNELL NOTES REVIEW

THE SHAPE OF SOUTH ASIA EARTHQUAKES TAKE PLACE IN THE LITHOSPHERE TECTONIC FORCES ARE MOSTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GEOGRAPHIC FORMATIONS OF NORTHERN INDIA NEPAL AND BHUTAN ARE LANDLOCKED NATIONS HIGH UP IN THE HIMALAYA MTS THE DECCAN PLATEAU IS A HIGHLANDS AREA IN SOUTH CENTRAL INDIA FORMED BY TECTONIC FORCES. ITS RUGGED PHYSICAL FEATURES MAKE ITS POPULATION MUCH LOWER THAN MOST PARTS OF INDIA.

SOUTH ASIA & ITS WATER HINDUS CONSIDER THE GANGES SACRED, BUT OFTEN DUMP DEAD BODIES, ASHES. DEAD COWS, & RAW SEAGE INTO IT. THE GANGES IS ONE OF THE MOST POLUTED RIVERS IN THE WORLD SOUTH ASIA’S RIVERS CAN CAUSE MASSIVE FLODDING BECAUSE : Flood prone areas are located along major river systems where silting has created low lying areas that flood easily during spring snowmelt and monsoon rains. MOSOONS ARE WIND PATTERNS THAT BRING SEASONAL RAIND AND DROUGHT TO MUCH OF SOUTH ASIA

RELIGIONS HINDUISM DOMINATES INDIA AND MUCH OF SOUTH ASIA HINDUS ARE POLYTHEISTIC, BELIEVING IN MANY GODS SIKHISM WAS FOUNDED IN THE 15 TH CENTURY BY GURU NANAK DEV SIKHS BELIEVE IN REINCARNATION AND ONE GOD BUDDHISM WAS ALSO FOUNDED IN SOUTH ASIA BY SIDDHARTHA GUATAMA BUDDHISTS BELIVE IN THE EIGHFOLD PATH, REINCARNATION & THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS

SOCIAL STRUCTURES THE CASTE SYSTEM IS STILL WIDELY ACCEPTED IN INDIA DESPITE BEING OUTLAWED IN THIS SYSTEM SEPERATES PEOPLE BY SOCIAL CLASSES THAT CANNOT BE CROSSED EXCEPT THROUGH DEATH AND REINCARNATION. ARRANGED MARRIAGES, WHERE THE PARENTS OF CHILDREN ARRANGE DEALS FOR THEM TO MARRY, ARE STILL COMMON PRACTCE IN INDIA AND MUCH OF SOUTH ASIA.

INDIA’S POPULATION INDIA HAS A POPULATION OF OVER 1 BILLION THE GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN TRYING TO LIMIT POPULATION GROWTH BY ADVERTISING IDEAS THAT INDIANS SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 2 KIDS INFANT MORTALITY RATES HAVE DECREASED AT A HIGH RATE OF THE LAST 40 YEARS HEALTH CARE ADVANCEMENTS HAVE ALSO ALLOWED INDIAN TO LIVE WELL INTO OLD AGE EVEN THOUGH BIRTH RATES ARE DOWN NOW, THE POPULATION IS STILL EXPECTED TO DOUBLE IN THE NEXT 30 YEARS BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED HEALTH AND SURVIVAL OF INDIAN PEOPLE THIS WILL PUT MANY PEOPLE IN AN UNUSUAL POSITION THAT INDIA HASN’T DEALT WITH BEFORE: PLANNING FOR LFE & CARE OF THE ELDERLY ON A LARGE SCALE

KASHMIR INDIA HAS CONROLLED KASHMIR FOR MOST OF THE LAST 50 YEARS KASHMIR IS A CONTENDED AREA BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN BECAUSE MOST OF THE PEOPLE LIVING HERE ARE MUSLIM AND PAKISTAN IS AN ISLAMIC STATE
