„Agropuzzle 2” meeting in Czech Republic January 2014 Presentation Day 3

Directions for creating of multimedia presentation by participants of Czech’s mobility within Leonardo da Vinci „Agropuzzle 2” project.

The aim of presentation: To show characteristic features of running a farm and agrobusiness enterprises in Czech Republic on the basis of: 1) Home-browery – Rohov 2) Strahovice – swine slaught 3) Hlučín feast cake making 4) Regional bee-keeper Each group (country) prepare its presentation in their mother tongue or in English for every visited place taking into account:  Characteristic features listed above  Personal remarks and feelings not included in the chart  Photos taken on the spot

1. Vast area farms; so-called individual farms and specialization in terms of plants and animal production 1)Strahovice – swine slaught They have 1600 ha with wheat, barley, maize, rape and alfalfa. Also they have 280 Holstein cows and 150 pigs for slaughter. 2)Home-browery – Rohov It’s an indoor business, so they don’t used fields in their activities.

3) Hlučín feast cake making It’s an indoor activity, so they don’t used fields in their activities. 4) Regional bee-keeper He hasn’t got fields of his own, but he placed the hives in different locations.

2. Family oriented business activity 1) Strahovice – swine slaught This is not a family business. 2) Home-browery – Rohov It’s a family business with nine people, mainly from the family.

3) Hlučín feast cake making It’s not a family business, it’s only a collective meeting. 4) Regional bee-keeper It’s a family business.

3. Vocational education of company owners and their children connected to Opava Secondary Agricultural School 1)Koberice – swine slaught The manager is an agronomist and rarely hire students for summer jobs. 2) Home-browery – Rohov The owner place have “watch and learn” studies and completed with the help from a brewer who made the control of the bier.

3) Hlučín feast cake making They learned how to make cookies from their mothers. 4) Regional bee-keeper He learned bee-keeping by practice.

4. Acquiring of funds from European projects aimed at development and modernization of farms and enterprises (in close relation to agricultural education) 1) Strahovice – swine slaught The only funds received from the Governement and EU are subsidies. 2) Home-browery – Rohov They developed the business with EU project only for the equipment.

3) Hlučín feast cake making They don’t cooperate with UE for funds. 4) Regional bee-keeper They don’t cooperate with UE for funds.

5. Cooperation with raw materials’ suppliers and recipients of farm goods, both animal and vegetable 1) Strahovice – swine slaught They cooperate with crop company. 2) Home-browery – Rohov They buy all the main products for their business.

3) Hlučín feast cake making She bought some of the ingredients from the local supermarket. 4) Regional bee-keeper From the construction material shop he bought the main materials for construction of honey bee productions tools.

6. Any marketing activities aiming at acquiring raw material and cooperation with recipients of final product 1) Strahovice – swine slaught They are buying raw material from the main delivery crop protection firms. 2) Home-browery – Rohov In Rohov that business is acquiring raw material from the local area.

3) Hlučín feast cake making Local recognized cake maker. 4) Regional bee-keeper He use only the local market to sell the honey.

7. Showing significant production connections with foreign markets 1) Strahovice – swine slaught 2) Home-browery – Rohov 3) Hlučín feast cake making 4) Regional bee-keeper This type of business from today don’t have connection with foreign markets.

8. Development of side activities such as agritourism and restaurants 1) Strahovice – swine slaught They don’t sale their own products for developing other small business in agri- tourism. 2) Home-browery – Rohov With his own restaurant and brewery, his business is growing each year in agri-tourism.

3) Hlučín feast cake making They make cakes for weddings in local area as a hobby and for local food presentations and guests. 4) Regional bee-keeper The business is a part-time job in order to bring additional incomes.

9. The use of natural climatic and soil qualities in running a farming company within given area 1) Strahovice – swine slaught Because of the natural climatic and soil qualities, they obtain a higher quality for their fodder. 2) Home-browery – Rohov In local area their beer has a higher standard because the climatic and soil area is perfect for raw materials such as hops and barley.

3) Hlučín feast cake making In the process of making cakes they use materials from their own area. 4) Regional bee-keeper The natural climatic and soil conditions give a good quality and taste of the honey.

10. The use of landscape qualities in running a farm and agricultural company 1) Strahovice – swine slaught The landscape value of area lead to manage fine quality products. 2) Home-browery – Rohov The landscape value of area lead to manage fine quality products, because there are good fields for hops and barley.

3) Hlučín feast cake making They don’t use the landscape qualities in their business. 4) Regional bee-keeper He use a 5 km area for collecting the honey.

11. The use of high quality products 1) Strahovice – swine slaught They have good product because the landscape area permit to harvest a good quality crop like rape. 2) Home-browery – Rohov They have good products because the landscape area permit to harvest a good quality yield.

3) Hlučín feast cake making They use some quality products like eggs. 4) Regional bee-keeper The bees extract the nectar from the nearby orchards, from the rape fields, grasslands and forests.

12. Reduction of unemployment in the local area due to creation of new workplaces (recently) 1) Home-browery – Rohov By developing his business with the restaurant he will increase the number of employees. 2) Strahovice – swine slaught The company was build in order to bring more incomes.

3) Hlučín feast cake making Through the use of local products they implicated the local human resources. 4) Regional bee-keeper The bee-keeper has a full time job but the bee-keeping is a secondary job and it is helped by his family.

Your opinion about visited places Advantages: 1) Home-browery – Rohov: because of the restaurant they have a safe market 2) Strahovice – swine slaught: they collaborate with big companies and the results are very good 3) Hlučín feast cake making: they keep tradition and they use old recipe 4) Regional bee-keeper: he makes his own tools in that way he saves money Disadvantages: 1) Home-browery – Rohov: they buy all the raw materials for productions 2) Strahovice – swine slaught: they don’t have organic production 3) Hlučín feast cake making: they need the juridical personality for small business 4) Regional bee-keeper: they need the juridical personality for small business
