Croatian marine meteorological service is a modern service based on the maritime tradition, the science of meteorology, technology and telecommunications. Our basic objective is protection and safety of human lives and navigation at sea as well as of numerous activities going on on seas, islands and littoral. PORT OF SPLIT CROATIA

The Marine Meteorological Service in the Adriatic was established in First meteorological station began with its work in Dubrovnik in It is important to state that the meteorological data from the station Hvar were included into the European international data exchange already in 1857 when the meteorological station Hvar was established.

Tower Veneranda - Hvar Meteorological station 1857 the meteorological station Hvar was established and become First metereological station on Adriatic sea. Station Hvar were included into the European international exchange data.

Its contribution to the safety in the Adriatic with its meteorological reporting system and its permanent meteorological monitoring makes the framework of the safety of all the marine segments, from navigation, shipping (industry), fisheries, research to the nautical tourism. The Croatian Marine Meteorological Service is composed of three departments Head Office in Split 1. Synoptic-forecasting department, 2. Climatological department 3. General administrative service, The Marine meteorological office in Rijeka Marine meteorological stations in the Adriatic Ships participating in the WMO Scheme of Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS).

SHIP METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT:  establishment of ship - meteorological station:  education of ship - observer, making of instructions and accessories;  control of ship - meteorological instruments. DEPARTMENT Climatological department

47 ships belonging to Croatian shipping companies participate and they have been recruited by the State Meteorological and Hydrological service of the Republic of Croatia and its Marine Meteorlogical Department in Split GLOBAL OBSERVING SYSTEM

Ship meteorological measurements and observations in the Adriatic Ship meteorological measurements and observations in the Adriatic by those ships recruited by the State Meteorological Service of the Republic of Croatia are also performed at 00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC. Meteorological measurements and observations by selected ships and by those with prearrengement with its company are performed at 03, 09, 15 and 21 UTC.

CONCLUSION Croatian marine meteorological service in the WMO Scheme of Voluntary Observing Ships participates with 47 ships belonging to Croatian shipping companies and with 5000 ship reports with about 1500 OBS METEO reports (30 %).

CONCLUSION Ship meteorological stations will play the major and very important role in the global observation system and remain irreplacable and the most reliable source of meteorological data from the huge sea areas.
