LESSON B Grammar: Articles and Simple Tenses Articles We use articles with illness, usually, in British English, names of diseases are uncountable nouns including with illness ending with “s” For example, the measles, the flu can be used informally before common diseases  I think I’ve got (the) measles.  Have you had appendicitis?  I’m getting toothache. (US : a toothache)

LESSON B Grammar: Articles and Simple Tenses Articles An illness that is not serious is a countable noun : a cold, a sore throat, a headache, however, toothache, earache, stomachache and backache are often used as uncountable nouns in American English  I’ve got a horrible cold.  Have you got a headache?  Dara has a scratch on her hand.
