Presentation transcript:

Fire Kills Fight fire with proper prevention My Life Monday Fire is a serious threat. It may be rare in an office environment but it is important to be prepared. You never know when it strikes!! Preventing a fire in a workplace could be relatively easy in comparison to repairing the damage caused. So be aware of any fire hazards in your surroundings and eliminate them before it causes any fatality or serious damage.

What you should DO in the event of a fire? Don’t panic. Don’t assume anyone has called for help. Never take the elevator during a fire. Don’t try using a fire extinguisher if you are not sure on how to use it. Leave the area and call for help. Don’t attempt to rescue co-workers once outside. Notify fire fighters instead. Never fight a fire if you lack a safe way to escape should your efforts fail. Never lock fire exits or doorways, halls or stairways.

Pay attention to housekeeping and keep your work area clean. It only takes a few minutes to put trash in the bin and do not let trash and waste material accumulate. Smoke only in designated areas. Emergency exit doors and windows must be kept clear, free and accessible. Maintain machinery or equipment and prevent it from overheating. Electrical malfunction is also a common cause of a fire. Electrical equipment should be checked on a regular basis. Report any damages or worn out cords and insulation. Here are some ways you can reduce fire hazards:

Here are some more ways you can reduce fire hazards: Here are some more ways you can reduce fire hazards: Know where fire extinguishers are stored and be trained to operate them. Keep all electrical appliances away from anything that can catch fire. Recognize all evacuation alarms and exits and if a fire strikes, notify your coworkers. Leave the area as quickly as possible. It is important to understand the fire hazards of the materials you work with. They may be combustible, flammable, explosive or reactive. Store in a safe place and in proper containers. Observe company security policies and fire emergency plans and be alert of any suspicious persons or activities.

There are 4 types of fire A, B, C, D A- Wood, paper, cloth, rubbish. B- Flammable gas, grease and liquids. C- Electrical fires. D- Combustible metals such as sodium, magnesium and potassium. Each type of fire requires a particular fire extinguisher. Before pulling the trigger, make sure you have the right one and you also know how to use it.
