Emergency Markers Data Collection Process

Marker Data Collection What data is collected? 9 Point Marker Data Checklist Marker Index Marker X,Y Co-ordinates Marker Suburb Intersection Street 1 & Street 2 Iterative Data Collection Loop Compass Direction (N, S, W, E) Distance in Metres Directional Qualifier Permanent Features Potential Obstructions This information provides the specific directions to reach the Marker Location. It may contain several segments of directional information until the Marker Location is reached. The Marker Index, Co-ordinates, Suburbs & Intersection information provide the directions to get the emergency response team to the most appropriate intersection.

Iterative Data Collection Loop Example of component CAD screen Marker Data Collection Exercise - Working Sheet Optimum number of directional lines? Expectation of CAD operators & recipients?

Marker Data Collection Step by Step Instructions for Completing Data Collection 9 Point Marker Data Checklist Marker Index Marker X,Y Co-ordinates Marker Suburb Intersection Street 1 & Street 2 Iterative Data Collection Loop Compass Direction Distance in Metres Directional Qualifier Permanent Features Potential Obstructions MRT 031 X: Y: Maribyrnong Orford Street & The Boulevard West 20 On The Boulevard Around Pond With Rotunda Downhill On Asphalt Footpath South West 100 North West 70 On Asphalt Footpath NOTES: The information is going to be dispatched via Radio, MDN to the ESO – as such descriptions should be succinct, clear and easy to understand. A new directional segment would commence upon reaching an obstruction, where a new path/road is taken or an intersection is reached en route to the marker. When describing navigation on a long path, road or route segment, it is not necessary to describe every permanent feature that is along the route unless it is something that would obviously add value. DO NOT USE LEFT AND RIGHT to describe features you are passing, For example, “Past toilet block to your left” …. Should be “Past toilet block” Where there is an obstruction such as a Locked Gate, instructions should be provided for getting access to Keys or any other equipment necessary. Permanent Features: This describes any features passed or noticed along the route segment. The Description must have a connector before the permanent feature – I e OVER, PAST, AROUND eg Past Toilet Block Distance in Metres: eg 80M Directional Qualifier: This information describes, the path, road name on which you travel for the given distance and direction eg Uphill along Gravel Path Compass Direction (N,S,W,E) : eg face North- East (Use eight points of a compass only) Potential Obstructions: This describes an obstruction on the given route segment. Descriptions must have connector before the obstruction eg over, past, Arrive at Locked Gate, Also, Enter additional information to access area. Eg KEYS with POMC Control Room, Phone:

Marker Data Collection Exercise Step by Step Instructions for Completing Data Collection Marker Index: This is a pre-allocated reference for the marker. Contains Marker X, Y Co-ordinates: Marker Suburb: Exact Suburb Name for the Marker Location Intersection Street 1 and Street 2 : The Most Accessible Intersection to Marker Street 1 –: The street most logically associated with the Marker – ie this is the street most relevant to describe the Marker Location. NB: Streets that change names without an intersecting street should NOT be used as intersection references. Iterative Data Loop: From the Intersection Reference, complete the following fields with specific directions in segments as required until the Marker Location is reached: Compass Direction (N,S,W,E) : eg face North-East (Use eight points of a compass only) Distance in Metres: eg 80M Directional Qualifier: Uphill along Gravel Path Permanent Features: must have connector before the permanent feature – ie OVER, PAST, AROUND eg Past Toilet Block Potential Obstructions: must have connector before the obstruction eg over, past, through eg Through Locked Gate NB: Terrain Definitions should be consistent: Grass Plain, Gravel Path, Walking Track, River Trail

Marker Data Collection Exercise Use this sheet as a reference for data required 9 Point Marker Data Checklist Marker Index Marker X,Y Co-ordinates Marker Suburb Intersection Street 1 & Street 2 Iterative Data Collection Loop Compass Direction (N, S, W, E) Distance in Metres Directional Qualifier Permanent Features Potential Obstructions Format: “MRT 001” “MRT 123” etc Format: Per Standard Format: Exact Suburb Name Format: “ABC Street” “ ABC Avenue” Most logically associated street to Marker is FIRST )) “North”, “South” “East”, “West” Or “North-West”, “South-East” etc “10” “80” “50” 1.0 klm “Canoe Club”, “ Toilet Block”, “Bridge” “Tunnel” “Trail intersection” “Locked Gate, Bollard” “Contact “”” for keys “Drain/Ditch” Connector: N/A Connector: “AND” Connector: N/A “Uphill” or “Downhill” or “Around”etc “ABC Street” Or “ On Dirt Road” Or “River Trail” etc Connector: “Over” “Past” “Through” etc (verb-based) eg Past a toilet block Connector: “ON” “Follow” “Past” eg Uphill on ABC Street
