$$$ WHY LEARN ROOFING? $$$ When your roof is damaged, it can cause water and debris to get into your house and ruin it. It can also reduce the energy efficiency and bring in moisture and mold. This can impact your families health. Loss of energy from a damaged roof can mean the loss of hundreds of dollars in heating & cooling bills. Learning how to repair the damage can save you money, but you must use proper safety precautions.

Repairing a Roof With Shingles Types of Repairs –Determine if you need to just replace a few shingles or sections of roof. –Most damage occurs around flashing, corners, or joints. –If not fixed, it can cause eventual structural damage and cost more that it would in the first place. Estimating Repairs –After determining the amount of damage, estimate the cost of repairs on the area damaged and cost of materials to fix it. –If you are uncomfortable working on a roof, hire a roofer to do it for you. It may be cheaper in the long run!

Always try to use a shingle that is similar in size and color as the old one. Apply asphalt roofing cement to the shingle before placing. Nail down with 1 ¾ roofing nails. Cover Nails with shingle above. Put cement around nail head to prevent leaks.
