Learning Objectives for this session: -Know why a vision statement is an essential step in an advocacy campaign. -Be able to develop a vision and mission statement for an advocacy campaign. -Be able to develop goals for an advocacy campaign. -Understand the value of separating content and process goals. -Be able to identify negotiable and non-negotiable goals.

- In light of your research, do you still hold the same position on the issue? - Establish non-negotiable/bottom lines - Identify your goals clearly. Focus on small steps What is the vision of your campaign? What are the goals along the way?

Having a clear vision statement can: Draw people to work for a common good Give hope that there can be a better future Enable people to talk about alternatives in concrete terms Inspire the campaign group to turn dreams into reality Provide a basis for developing other aspects of the campaign plan – goals, strategies and action plans.

Having a clear mission statement can: Transform the broad dreams of your vision into more specific terms Explain your goals to interested parties, and assure them that your initiative is not all talk and no action Increase the chance of attracting new participants to the campaign Reassure funding sources that their donations are being used effectively.

What are the goals along the way to achieving your vision?
