First assembly (new shaft) Repair (used shaft) PV plus The Service Friendly Pump Switch order Changing shaft seal
New shaft Shaft seal first, then washer. Seal is located further out Used shaft Washer first, then shaft seal. Sealing lip and dust protection lip are running on a new, un-damaged area further in the pump. Replace shaft is not necessary. PV plus The Service Friendly Pump Changing shaft seal
PV plus The Silent Pump Primary cause for pump noise vibration of pump body due to pulsating forces influenced mainly by pump body design Secondary cause for pump noise vibration of power unit or environment induced by flow and pressure pulsation influenced mainly by power unit / system builder
PV plus Noise reduction – Pulsations Primary cause pulsation Pulsating internal forces 4 or 5 pistons under pressure, varies with piston frequency ( rpm) Eg. PV046: At 350 bar, the force per piston is 8000N, which means force pulsating from 32 to 40kN at 225Hz. For PV270 the force per piston is 26500N
PV plus Noise reduction - Housing optimization Added material to make the housing more rigid – less movement reduces noise. A rigid housing does not solve the problem completely, a rigid housing has a higher natural frequency and sounds bad. The solution is to tune the housing to deform in a predictable way. Result of a simulation of the natural vibration using the CAD programs Pro/Mechanica® and Pro/Engineer®

For 69 l/min piston pump at 350 bar: trapped volume:11,1 cm³ compression volume:0,3 cm³ compression time:1,2 ms compression flow:14,8 l/min real pulsation is caused by compression flow for the next piston to deliver flow and is taken from the pump outlet. 225 times per second (1,500 rpm) a 69 l/min pump is missing an average of 14.8 l/min (>20%) of its nominal flow!
