 People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals founded by Ingrid Newkirk in  Dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of animals  Mission Statement “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment”  PETA first uncovered the abuse of animals in experiments in 1981  PETA developed additional websites including cowsarecool.com, petatv.com, and furisdead.com

 Campaigns deliberately designed to garner as much attention as sympathy.  Use public displays along with their website to deliver messageswebsite  Condemned by other non-profit organizations as offensive and irresponsible.offensive  Despite PETA’s potentially lethal public relation schemes, they have become “The most successful radical group in America”.lethal public relation schemes

" The truth is that extremism and outrage provide the fundamental fuel for many special interest groups. We are complete press sluts. It is our obligation. We would be worthless if we were just polite and did not make any waves.”

 Controversial campaigns not only grab the public's attention, but also play a major role in capturing public support for animal rights in general.  PETA raises more than fifteen million dollars annually, primarily from individual donations.  Forced McDonalds to become first major company in US history to require its suppliers to humanely treat animals.  United States government taking animal issues more seriously - along with an increase in awareness about animal rights in general.
