“Worthless Physicians” Job 13:1-4 V. 1. “Behold, my eye has seen all this, My ear has heard and understood it. V. 2. “What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you. V. 3. “But I would speak to the Almighty, And I desire to reason with God. V. 4. “But you forgers of lies, You are all worthless physicians.”

Observations about Job The Book of Job is a fascinating book! The background for Job’s problems is revealed in chapters one and two. The book informs us of Job’s three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar who came to “mourn with him and to comfort him,” Job 2:11. They were “miserable comforters,” 16:2

The Book Contains Thee Cycles of Speeches 1 st cycle of speeches, chapters 4-14, with Job’s friends accusing him of sin, and of Job answering them. 2 nd cycle of speeches, chapters rd cycle of speeches, chapters Chapters records the speeches of a fourth person, Elihu. Chapter 42, the grand finale.

This lesson – “Worthless Physicians” Job called them “worthless physicians,” chapter 13:4; said they were “forgers of lies,” (“you smear with lies,” NIV). All of us are indebted to good doctors! But the religious realm, like the medi- cal field, contains many who do more harm than good; people who give false answers to “what must I do to be saved

“Doctor Atheist” His Diagnosis: “There is no God.” Remedy: You need not be concerned; there is no God to give an answer to. Question: How Does He know there is no God?? He ignores facts of science, biology, and the Bible! People on their death bed do not call for “doctor Atheist!”

“Doctor Agnostic” His Diagnosis: “We can’t be certain.” His “medicine” will not satisfy the longings of man! But God has spoken! John 1:18; Hebrews 1:1-2. The Bible bears every evidence of being what it claims to be! Dying men don’t call for this “doctor!”

“Doctor Evolutionist” His Diagnosis: You Evolved. His Remedy: “Situation Ethics.” Question for “Doctor Evolutionist:” –How do you know we evolved? –The theory violates known facts of science. –It contradicts the Bible. Gen. 1:11, 26-27; Acts 17:28; Hebrews 12:9

“Doctor No Hell” His Claims: “God is a God of love and mercy; He would never punish His creation. His Problem: He only knows one side of God! If there is no hell, why does the Bible give so many warnings of that place?

“Doctor False Peace” His Diagnosis: “Everything is fine.” His prescription: “Don’t get excited about feelings of guilt; things are not that bad.” He is like the false prophets of Jeremiah 6:14. God has a prescription for the pangs of guilt and sin itself; it is called “the Gospel!” Rom. 1:16; 5:1; Eph. 2:13-16

“Doctor Good Enough” His Diagnosis: “You are not so bad.” His Prescription: “you are not such a bad person; don’t worry about your condition.” His problem: He doesn’t understand that no one is “good enough” to go to heaven! All have sinned; all must obtain forgiveness.

“Doctor Do Better” His Prescription: “Reform is Enough.” Fact: It is true; you have sinned; you must do better! However, the sin problem must be dealt with! Isaiah 1:18. A better future does not change a disobedient past; the sins of the past must be dealt with. The remedy is the blood of Jesus!

“Doctor Time Enough” His Diagnosis: you have done wrong. His Remedy: There is no real hurry; wait for a convenient season. He ignores the uncertainties of life! Note James 4;14; 2 Corinthians 6:2; death can come without a moment’s notice. Hell will be partially populated with people who thought that had plenty of time!

“Doctor too Late” His Diagnosis: “You’ve been a sinner all your life.” His Prescription: “It is too late; you are too set in your ways to change now.” He is a “worthless physician!” As long as you have breath in your body and mind capable of understanding, it is not too late! Hebrews 3:7,8

Conclusion: Theologically speaking, the world is filled with “worthless physicians,” who “smear with lies,” whose prescriptions must be rejected. Jesus is “the Great physician.” He is able to remove your spiritual ailments, Isaiah 53:4-6. He invites you! Matthew 11:28.
