BEHIND ENEMY LINES STRATEGIES FOR LIFE IN SATAN’S TERRITORY Discovering how satan works through our thoughts Matthew 16:

1.WHAT IS “SPIRITUAL WARFARE”? The action of satan (or his fellow angels/demons) to hinder or disrupt the plan of God in the lives of believers, the church or the world.

THE WORKS OF SATAN 1.Keep us outside God’s will. 2.Defeat us with his condemnations. 3.Weaken us spiritually in his fallen world. 4.Hinder the work of the Church through disharmony and false teaching. 5.Steal the joy of the Lord.

SATAN’S WORKS ARE REFERRED TO AS “STUMBLING BLOCKS” Matthew 16:23, “stumbling block” σκ ά νδαλον (skandalon) - a trap, a snare; any impediment placed in the way and causing one to stumble or fall (a stumbling block). Thayer’s Greek Lexicon.

2.THE MIND IS THE BATTLE FIELD. A belief that is false. Matt 16:22, “God forbid…” Matt 16:23, “you are setting your mind…” Circumstances? If he can use them to keep us from trusting God.

SATAN’S DOORWAY? All about Peter? Fishing boat. Luke 5:5 Knew better. 16:22 The most “spiritual.” 26:33 Last word. 26:35 Drew the sword. John 18:10 satan set up camp. Pride is fertile ground.

3.SATAN’S LIES REVEALED HIS PRESENCE TO CHRIST. John 8:44 satan is “present”: lies we believe. Romans 12:2. Simon never knew satan was present.

4.SATAN ATTACKS THROUGH OUR THOUGHTS. Peter. People and leaders at the cross. Matt 27:40-43 Matt 4:3, 5 If you are the Son of God – prove it. Seeds of self-doubt?

SATAN THE ACCUSER (2 ND PERSON). 1.You never read your bible. You are such a worthless Christian. You’ll never get it. 2.What a terrible job you did at … Give up. 3.You don’t fit in here. You’re too quiet, too talkative, too ugly, …? 4.You need to apologize – it doesn’t matter you don’t know what you did. You’re guilty.

HOW DO WE DEFEAT SATAN? 1.Make it personal. He named him then rejected his lie. “satan, …” v16:23 “Get behind me…

HOW DO WE DEFEAT SATAN? 2.Replaced the lie with the truth. Set your mind on the things of God not the things of man.
