 Internal – What decisions must the character make?  Self  External – What outside forces affect the character’s decisions?  Man  Nature  Society

 Elements of plot which heighten tension

 Read the story  Make note of the setting changes  Be able to recite the basic plot elements  Know at least one example of internal and external conflict that the protagonist encounters  Know one example of cause/effect You can but do not have to write this down. We will discuss these items in class. After you finish, write a one paragraph reaction to the story due in class tomorrow.
