Developing Safe Work Habits Unsafe behavior is the number one cause of accidents and injuries on the job and in workshops. Get into the habit of working safely. You’ll benefit yourself and your co- workers

Develop a Safe Attitude Work attentively and give your full attention to the task at hand. Never indulge in “horseplay” or other foolish behavior. The federal law that governs safety in a workplace is OSHA.

Keep Yourself and the Work Area Neat and Clean Fewer accidents occur in shops that are well maintained. Prevent slips and falls by keeping the floor and work stations clean. Wash your hands at the end of cleanup, not before!!!

Dress for the Job. Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, or dangling sleeves that can get caught in machinery or catch fire. Do not wear sandals or open-toed shoes. Wear shoes that will fully cover your feet. Always wear safety glasses

General Safety (I) All accidents should be reported to the instructor at once. It is dangerous to store tanks unsecured. (See Picture) Safety glasses should always be worn while operating machines. Watches, arm bracelets, and jewelry can not be worn while operating machinery. Long hair should be confined or tied back before working.

General Safety (II) Never operate any machine if the instructor is not present. The instructor should inspect all special set-ups before they are used. This includes Oxy-Acetylene and wiring attachments. Don’t touch hot metal. Use the tools to handle metal! (See picture)
