PNC - History Founded by a group of Pacific Rim University Presidents Administered by the University of California, Berkeley Original focus: network access 1997 Administration transferred to Academia Sinica, Taiwan New focus: content development and sharing –Help scholars work together –Help scholars select common standards –Help scholars coordinate projects

PNC Current Directions

PNC - Mission To serve PNC members in promoting multi-disciplinary and cultural knowledge development and information sharing through active scholarship.

PNC - Vision Through active scholarship, culture knowledge development and information sharing will be promoted. Information technology will be no more obtrusive than printed books or telephones. The Pacific Rim's libraries, archives, and Museums in all languages will be available to anyone, anywhere. Expert know-how will be available to all.

PNC - Vision (Continued) Students will never need printed reference materials. Students anywhere will be able to study any subject. Scholars will be able to use any tool to analyze any material. Scholars will be able to collaborate with anyone, anywhere.

PNC - Goals Promote public availability of information resources. Facilitate coordination of international scholarly activities of PNC members. Stimulate, design, coordinate, and participate in international interdisciplinary programs.

PNC - Goals (Continued) Communicate information about academic progress and its impact on society. Involve active scholars. Enhance the International Academia Reputation of Taiwan, ROC.
