Knowledge Exchange 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados Deepening analytical work Lessons Learned Case Stories Emily Tangarife Interamerican Cooperation Network How to Participate

South-South/ triangular practices and experiences can inform and enrich global development policies South-South/ triangular cooperation can learn from effectiveness of North-South cooperation need to be strengthened The bridges between South-South and North-South cooperation need to be strengthened Deepening analytical work 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

Our Southern contributions to the aid/cooperation effectiveness agenda should illustrate that: Critical development challenges can be effectively solved by South-South knowledge exchange South-South exchange and mutual learning means efficient capacity development and creates strong incentives for policy and institutional change 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados Deepening analytical work

The first phase of the TT-SSC not only generated a valuable universe of case stories in a very tight time frame, but also lessons learned on how to foster country-led and policy- relevant evidence. An essential conclusion is that developing countries are willing and capable to contribute their experiences and practices to global policy-making processes. Lesson Learned 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

The analytical work will be conducted under the leadership of Southern academia in both technical and administrative terms The Northern academic partners contribute to demand-driven capacity development of the Southern partners as part of the joint analytical work There are sound prospects for a Southern-led academic networking among the involved partners Academia 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

Basic criteria for all cases (studies and stories) South-South/triangular technical cooperation and capacity development, in particular through knowledge exchange and peer learning, is the key element of the experience The experience helped the partners to exchange their knowledge and practices as equal partners There was strong national leadership on the recipient side, and the partners involved were accountable to each other Case Stories 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

Specifics for Case Stories The recipient perspective is strongly reflected in the experience Critical lessons have been learned, especially with relation for what does not work in South-South knowledge exchange The diversity of sectors and modalities can be adequately balanced Detailed information is available Immediate access to key actors involved in the experience can be ensured At least three TT-SSC-led cases should cover each of the regions, with additional three addressing each triangular cooperation and cross-regional cooperation Case Stories/ Studies 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

Share your experience by writing a case story in an easy-to-use template, validated by dozens of Southern partners that have already uploaded their experiences to a web platform. Support the drafting of a deeper case study on one or several key challenges, to be commissioned to Southern academia Participate in the emerging Community of Practice of the TT- SSC which will discuss in events and on line the key challenges and the outcomes from the cases. How to Participate 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

In order to bridge rigor and inclusiveness, the TT-SSC maintains two channels of analytical work. The case studies will look into critical areas and challenges of South-South knowledge exchange, involving a set of research methodologies to be conducted by Southern academia. As a continuity of the first phase of the TT-SSC, the case stories will enable partners to contribute their experiences in an easy-to-use template. How to Participate 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados

How to Participate TT-SSC Case Studies In line with the work plan , the TT-SSC will conduct 15 case studies covering all six key challenges. As soon as funding is available, the TT-SSC will launch regional calls for case studies among Southern universities and research institutes. As a general rule, the cases will be based on pre-identified case stories. Member-led Case studies The TT-SSC members are invited to conduct case studies using the same methodology, but drawing on their own resources and networks. Before starting a case study, members should inform the TT-SSC, in order to ensure that the methodology has been adequately understood and will be correctly applied. Case storiesThe call for case stories will remain open for all stakeholders interested in sharing their experiences in South-South knowledge exchange. 1st Subregional workshop on cooperation effectivenes: Caribbean Chapter September 21-22, 2010, Bridgetown, Barbados
