ProsCons Because of the two day rotation electives that meet every other day ensure at least two meetings per week. No extended team time. Off team classes are back to back requiring less build up an break down. Many transitions for students during the day creates potential for more discipline problems and disruptions. Easy to remember.Seven classes a day creates shorter periods and potentially more nightly homework. Teachers have potentially two blocks together to plan and meet. No alignment with high school. Limited options for accelerated and struggling learners.

ProsCons Flexibility with a fixed first period ICE block/Extended team time. Could be confusing for staff, students and families. Potential access to a more global curriculum via exposure to courses at the high school. Electives may have weeks with fewer meetings. Longer periods= more time with teachers.Electives not meeting back to back requires more build up and break down. Fewer transitions per day. Vertical alignment options for accelerated or remedial instruction.

Comparison Current MVMMS Schedule: 2 day, 7 period (A-G), 7 block schedule New MVMMS Schedule: 7 day, 7 period (A-G), 6 block schedule (drop one, waterfall) Time on Learning: Core classes: 180 days x 48 min= 144 hrs. Time on Learning: 7 day rotation= 25.8 cycles per 180 days 25.8 cycles = class meetings x 57 min= hrs. +2.5hrs Time on Learning: Electives: Trimester every other day= 30 days 30 days x 48 min = 24hrs Yearlong = 72 hrs. Time on Learning: 7day rotation= 8.6 cycles/60 days (trimester) 25.8meeting x 57 minutes = 24.5 hrs hrs. Full year = 24.4 x 3 = 73.2hrs hrs. G block ICE D block ICE fixed during first period Extended team block would meet once per cycle. ICE block would meet 5/7 days. Bells not aligned with high school, overlap impacting MS classes. Bells aligned with HS overlap eliminated No HS experience for students or sharing of staff. Possibilities for students to experience HS classes during D and G block. Potential to share staff. Full year electives limit opportunities for students Changing some full year electives to trimester elective may provide for more elective options. Off teams meet back to back Off teams meeting varies Teaching load remains the same
