$500 What is 30 degrees? A change in wind speed to over/under 12 knots and more than X degrees direction change requires amendment. $500 What is a Wind Rose? These graphical representations give a view of wind speed and directionalclimatological distribution at a particular location $500 $400 What is after ½ past the hour? When issuing an amendment, a TEMPO group cannot be used for the current hour after this point in time. $400 $500 What is the Remarks (RMK) section? It’s important to keep an eye on obs through the text window since these parts of a METAR will not make into the AVNFPS gui $500 $200 What is Yellow? The METAR section of your AVNFPS gui will turn this color, to let you know your forecast is in disagreement one category from the ob $300 What is the Climate tab? Detailed wind rose, ceiling, and visibility climatology data for all local and MLB sites can be found under this tab $200 $300 $100 Who is Ro? If you glance over and find a Christmas-Tree looking TAF GUI, it’s most likely to be this forecaster $100 $500 What are the first 9 hours? The use of PROB30 is not allowed within this time frame of the TAF $500 $400 What is HYSPLIT? These model runs, accessed from the upper- right hand corner of the intrahome page, can help in the forecasting of VA $400 $300 What is 30 minutes? Amendments should be issued when a change of one category or more is expected, or observed to last more than this amount of time. $300 $200 What is the 0 to 6 hour time frame? Most of your forecasting energy should be spent on this time frame, also known as the critical TAF period $200 $100 What are Flight, or Operational, Categories? One should avoid writing TAFs with unnecessary meteorological detail and instead focus on adhering to these categories $100 $400 What is VFR? A visibility of 6SM, commonly reported locally with HZ from diffuse VA or SAL, puts one in this operational category $400 $300 What is BKN or OVC? To be classified as a ceiling, sky coverage must be in one of these two descriptors (i.e. SKC, FEW) $300 $200 What is MVFR? A ceiling between 1000 and 3000 feet puts you in this flight category $200 $300 What is the NWS or DOC? Where liability falls when accidents involving bad weather forecasts occur $300 $100 What is an OAV (Aircraft Accident Notification Report)? This product will be issued by SJU upon “formal” notification of an aviation accident. $100 $200 What is Vicinity (VC)? The area 5 to 10 miles in radius from the runway. $200 $100 What is 5 miles? The terminal Aerodrome for which a TAF is valid, consists of a radius this many miles around the runway. $100 What is VFR? This acronym stands for “Visual Flight Rules” $100 $500 What is PROCOMM PLUS? If the closest ob to the accident is an ASOS, this program will be used to retrieve 5- minute observation data $500 $400 Who is the FAA? Specifically, the FAA Southern Region ROC Normally, we will be notified of aircraft mishaps by this organization $400 $200 What is the Intrahome Page? Detailed aviation accident procedures can be found electronically here $200 $400 What is the Mayaguez Airport TJMZ? CapeAir provides observations for this local airport, which resumed reporting in the last several months. $400 $300 What is the Airports Information Binder? This new binder, found in the HMT area, can be used to obtain detailed information on our local airports. $300 AirportsAccidents Flight Categories The ForecastAVN FPS
