Where will your curiosity take you?

Getting Started in Research Consider a general area in which you want to conduct your research Start reading in your interest area including theses of current or former students Start formulating ideas as you read Keep a research notebook or journal Once you have decided to a research project consider – Do you need approval from RPP? (Human, Animal, or Lab) Do you need funding to be successful? Can the project be done in the timeframe of degree? Where and when should I disseminate my work?

Contact – Research Protection Program , Research Protections Program The RPP ensures the safe, ethical conduct of human, animal and laboratory research compliant with University policy and regulatory requirements. Prior to the start of any teaching or research effort, GVSU faculty, staff and students should be aware of training requirements, regulatory compliance, and University policy when engaged in activities in the following areas: The conduct of exempt and non-exempt human subjects research Teaching or use activities involving vertebrate animals Use of radioactive materials or radiation producing equipment; chemicals and other hazardous materials; biological agents and recombinant DNA

Assists in the identification of patentable and copyrightable inventions Licenses the university's technologies; Facilitates collaborations between researchers, companies, and entrepreneurs; Encourages and supports product development and entrepreneurial activities within the university.
