Hiring Methods Structured Recruiting –Organizations has a need for a large number of new hires –Generally entry level positions –If they visit universities the organizations pick core schools –Formal application process in place –Examples include schools, large strategy consulting firms, young professional programs Just-time Recruiting –Organizations that are not hiring in large numbers –Generally have minimal entry level positions –Often do not visit or use university recruiting services –Examples include non- profit organizations, government positions, non-governmental positions (excluding YPP’s)

Advice from Recent Grads… “Do what you love. Passion is essential to doing what you do well” “Start early (December or January may be appropriate depending on your field) and take your job search as seriously as your coursework during your last semester if you want to have a job upon graduation.” “Do an internship!! And contact old colleagues who have moved on to other things... they can have an interesting variety of connections.” “Network, network, network! Especially among your cohort and professors” “Make sure to integrate it into your schedule during the second term. I overloaded my schedule in the fall in order to take three and a half classes in the spring, which allowed time for job searches… Make sure to bolster experience if you are not coming from working in the field. You can do this through internships, research assistantships or volunteer work.” “It is scary to make phone call and to put yourself out there. You have to push yourself to get over the fear. After the third phone call it is much easier. Also, it is essential that you make face-to-face contact. Go to the area that you want to work and drop off your resume in person.”
