How To Have A Great Internship Experience

  Etiquette  Ways to Impress  Networking  Translating Experience Onto Your Resume Agenda

  Accept your intern status and use it to your advantage  EVERYONE has to pay their dues. Impress your boss by doing it with a can do attitude and a smile on your face.  Show up early and stay late  Take initiative  Avoid Negativity Etiquette

  Stay away from your Facebook page  And Twitter  And Instagram  …  Keep personal calls to a minimum  STOP texting unless you are in private  Not in a meeting  Not when having a conversation with someone  Not when eating lunch with someone Etiquette

  Take Initiative  Set personal goals for yourself  You may be homesick so make friends and get a social life outside the office  Learn to adjust to the new work environment – inside all day, set schedule etc.  Keep a weekly learning journal  List all skills you’ve learned with each project  Set up regular meetings with your supervisor  Go above an beyond what is asked of you Ways to Impress

  Ask questions!  Take every opportunity to attend company events, meetings, trainings and workshops  Find a mentor  Leave with tangible accomplishments Ways to Impress

  Build professional relationships with your boss and co-workers  Break out of your cubicle and visit other departments  Conduct informational interviews  Prepare 30 second introduction - Who are you? What can you offer?  Business cards: the currency of networking Networking

  Invite people to lunch  Ask people to meet for coffee  Participate in company events like company softball games etc  Always offer to reciprocate assistance Networking

  Make sure you have business cards of everyone you’ve worked with  Ask supervisors and mentors for letters of reference OR if you may use them as a reference  NEVER use someone without asking first  Complete exit interview and evaluations  Add experience to your resume refer to your learning journals  Hard skill like programming, engineering etc  Soft skills like presentations, communication, teamwork, creativity Grand Exit
