LMI: Transportation Workforce Jobs for the Future developed analyzed current and future industry LMI to produce a draft report. 55% of the current transportation workforce is 45 years or older (25% is over 55 years old). Transit and Railroad occupations have the highest percentage of the workforce facing imminent retirement. Transportation will add 417,300 net jobs to the US labor market by The jobs in greatest demand are semi-skilled and skilled jobs in operations, maintenance, construction. Heavy truck drivers account for 1/3 rd of total job openings in the next decade. Most entry-level positions require HS Diploma/GED and demonstration of math/language proficiency. But extensive training is required to move up. National median annual wage: $34,

LMI: Transportation Workforce By 2022, overall transportation job demand will grow by 14% in the DC Metro.  Highway (38% growth)  Transit (17%)  Trucking (15%)  Air (9%)  Railroad (0%)  Maritime (0%) 3,291 transportation positions are available now in the DC Metro:  Median annual wage for these positions is $36,850.  1,470 of these positions require a CDL.  679 employers are hiring for these positions in the DC Metro right now.
