Japanese Occupation in Asia ●After the defeat of japan of Japan in WW2 the United States led the allies in the occupation and rehabilitation of the japanese state. ●September, ,General Douglas MacArthur took charge of the Supreme Command of Allied Powers (SCAP) and began the work of rebuilding Japan. ●The occupation of Japan was divided into three phases: the initial effort to punish and reform Japan, the work to revive the Japanese economy, and the conclusion of a formal peace treaty and alliance. ●The Allies were punishing Japan for its past militarism and expansion by convening war crimes trials in Tokyo. SCAP dismantled the Japanese army and banned former military officers from taking roles of political leadership in the new government.

More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and 1,000 were wounded. ●The attack on Pearl Harbor was a sp ●On December 8, Congress approved Roosevelt’s declaration of war. Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy declared war against the United States. On the second time around the congress wouldn’t alawite two year later the United States entered WW2. Pearl Harbor

●Having been isolationist not long before, this intervention into SE Asia resulted in a big blow to the U.S. ●The U.S. could have remained uninvolved/unaffected by the conflict had it been safer Significance to the War
