An 8 step guide to Land Purchase
Contact the Community Asset Team If your community is considering the possibility of purchasing land.. 1 and optionally Community Land Scotland or Big Lottery
Hold a public meeting to inform and listen to your community Seek a mandate to establish a steering committee to investigate the plusses and minuses of community landownership 2
If and when a mandate is received Constitute the steering group Develop a brief to send to consultants who will help with a feasibility study 3
While feasibility study is being carried out the steering group will: Act as a link between Consultant and the Community Visit other Community Landowners Investigate the appropriate structure for the purchase Start to compile a business plan Obtain an independent valuation of the land 4 4
When happy with the study Present findings to all members of your community 5
Organise a ballot of all eligible members of your community Does the community support or oppose your community land purchase proposal? 6
Assuming a positive ballot result Commence the buying process according to the type of seller 7
Celebrate ! 8
