INDONESIAN ISLANDS & POPULATION Indonesia is located north-west of Australia several hundred kilometres away. There are around 17,000 islands in Indonesia but not all of them are large enough to live on. The six main islands are Java, Sumatra, Bali,Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Irian Jaya. The approximate population of Indonesia is 210 million.
INDONESIAN VOLCANOES & SOIL There are over 400 volcanoes in Indonesia and around 100 are still active. The reason for Indonesia having such fertile soil is because of high rain fall and volcanic ash.
INDONESIAN CROPS & FOOD The main crop of Indonesia is rice. The five foods and spices of Indonesia are paw-paw, mango, pineapple, chillies and cumin. Three well known Indonesian and English foods are grilled meat on skewers (sate), fried noodles (mie goreng) and fried rice (nasi goreng).
INDONESIAN SEASONS & ANIMALS There are two seasons which are musim hujan (wet) and musim kemarau (dry). Well known Indonesian animals are the bird of paradise, orang- utans and elephants.
WHAT ARE THE RELIGIONS IN INDONESIA AND WHERE DO MUSLIMS WORSHIP The main religions are Islam 90%, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity. Muslims worship in a mosque or in a masjid.
