At 4:56pm on the 7 th of September 1940 the blitz started. The blitz finished in May Bombs had hit Buckingham palace. But St Paul’s cathedral amazingly survived in spite of the flames and smoke that surrounded it…

More information about the blitz! Blitz means 'lightning war' in German. The blitz began with the bombing in London for 76 nights in a row. By the end of May 1941 over 43,000 people died. The first intention of Luftwaffe was to bomb the RAF but ended up bombing cites instead.
