Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi Aum Sri Sai Ram VEDIC KRISHI ORGANIC FARMING by SRI SATHYA SAI ORGANISATION TAMILNADU – NILGIRI DISTRICT

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 1. Chemical free traditional farming technologies (Organic, Biodynamic, Panchagavya, Agnihotra) are gaining momentum all over the world.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 2. Impact of Chemical based practices. Compaction of soil structure, Low organic matter content in the soil, Poor water holding capacity of the soil, Adverse effect on flora and fauna, Problem associated with residual toxicity, Increase in hazards with outbreak of pest and disease including weeds,

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 3. Biodynamic Agriculture Organic production system - micronutrients are not taken care of. Biodynamic agriculture - sound alternative. Biodynamic farming is becoming popular in several countries - Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and U.S.A. etc. In India – Ooty(Tamil Nadu),Indore(Madhya Pradesh) Uttar Pradesh, Uttranchal and NEH states.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 4. Biodynamic farming refers Biodynamic farming refers to “working with the energies which create and maintain life”. In biodynamic agriculture, the use of all the five energies i.e. Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Cosmic are utilized judiciously.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 5.Biodynamic agriculture - principles: To restore the soil, through incorporation of Organic matter. To establish, maintain and increase soil as living system, Organic matter as the basic factor for the soil life, Biodynamic method is not only fertilizing the soil but skilful application of factors contributing to soil life and health,

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi Biodynamic agriculture – principles – Contd Establish a system that brings into balance all factors which maintains life. It puts special emphasis on the importance of crop rotation, green manuring and cover crops, In biodynamic way of treating manure and composts, knowledge of enzyme, harmone and other factors are also considered.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 6.Nilgiris District – Present Scenario The rich, organic fertile soil conditions in Nilgiris made agriculture successful. Mild summer and mild winter prevailing in the Nilgiris favours cultivation of exotic vegetables, cutflowers etc. The changing cropping pattern has led to incidence of insect pests, nematodes and diseases in hill crops.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi Nilgiris District – Contd… During the last three decades, agricultural scenario in the Nilgiris ecosystem has been drastically changed due to extensive and intensive cropping system with high input use mainly the chemicals. The excess use of chemicals and fertilizers has created problems such as deterioration in soil fertility, soil biomass, soil microbial activity, which has increased the environmental pollution, residual toxicity, health problems and soil erosion.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 7. Vedic krishi and Sri Sathya Sai Organisation. Objective 1)Promoting Organic agriculture as a sustainable, safe and healthy method of increasing production with special price advantage. 2) Resolving often extreme distress in rural farming communities resulting from high input cost, low returns, increase in debts etc. 3) Reliance and locally available, affordable and environmental friendly inputs.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi Vedic krishi and Sri Sathya Sai Organisation- Contd 4)Increase self reliance through inclusion of local seeds, manures and indigenous practices for plant protection. 5)Encouraging mixed farming aimed at household food security while conserving biodiversity and local cultural values. 6)Preparing farmers for competitive marketing through value additions eg. Through quality, speciality products and processing. 7)Creating consumer awareness on respectful natural farming and safe food.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 8.Major activities initiated by Sri Sathya Sai Organisation 1)To help the farmers in converting conventional farms into organic farms with time bound programs. 2)To integrate all land based activity like agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and other land use activities. 3) To create wide spread awareness throughout the district the importance of organic farming and safety food.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 8.Major activities initiated by Sri Sathya Sai Organisation 4)Identifying model villages and intensifying the organic farm activity like biodynamic compost, vermicompost / vermin wash, seed treatment / foliar spraying of biodynamic preparation, agnihotra ( Homa ) farming etc., initiated in 9 villages. 5)Intensive training to district level resource persons, skill training at village levels.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 9.Supporting Agencies in the District 1)Tamilnadu Agriculture University TNAU (Horticulture Research Ooty) 2)Earth Trust – The Trust promotes organic, biodynamic farming, sustainable health, and organic marketing and income generation projects. 3)Department of Horticulture – Government of Tamilnadu supports the farmers through National Horticulture Mission projects.

Aum Sri Sai Ram Vedic Krishi 10.Core Group formed in the District 1)Sri K. Shanmugam - Assistant Director of Horticulture Dept of Horticulture 2)Dr. N. Selvaraj - Professor & Head Horticulture Research Station TNAU–Ooty 3)Sri.N.Sivasubramaniam - Horticulture officer - Ooty 4)Mr. Vanya Orr - Founder Earth Trust - Ooty 5)Dr.S.Ramu - District President.
