LAUNDRY... use NATURAL ENERGY!  Among the washing, drying and collection processes, the drying process can be done the most easily using natural energy Washing Drying Collection

Identifying problem areas  A convincing majority of people we surveyed stated bad weather, ventilation issues or space constraints as problems when drying laundry

Identifying problem areas  Solutions fall into 3 general categories: Waiting Waiting out bad weather and longer drying times Time wasted Using a dryer Using an electrical dryer Electricity wasted Moving the laundry Moving laundry to a different place Effort wasted

User needs  What are households’ concerns when doing laundry ?  From our survey, the following factors were the most common: positives Saving electricity Nice sun-dried smell Faster drying Convenience negatives Bad weather/environment Danger or difficulties in hanging outside Inconsiderate neighbours  If the problems above could be avoided, 98% of respondents said they would be willing to dry their laundry by natural means (i.e. outside, instead of using a dryer)

Ideation process  Initial focus: Use of natural energy Electrical/human energy  Some of the ideas that popped up were:  Clothes that do not need to be washed  Clothes that dry instantly  A machine that handles the entire laundry process – from washing to drying and folding

Ideation process  However, from our survey, we realised that the most waste of energy and time happened due to the need or inability to adapt to changes in the weather and environment
