49 boys and girls were enrolled when the college opened on September 21, 1907 The students could work in self help departments that included: The university farm The citrus and fig farm The laundry GULF COAST UNIVERSITY OF INDUSTRIAL ARTS

Many students did the laundry for the hotel and some townspeople They also sold 100 loaves of bread daily The girls took voice and piano lessons Dinner consisted of steak, potatoes, rice, and a roll THE STUDENTS CONT. Official brand of figs that the students grew

The first newspaper of Collegeport Regulated from JJ Rodebaugh as publisher After the Collegeport Chronicle stopped regulating JJ Rodebaugh started another newspaper called the Collegeport New Era THE COLLEGEPORT CHRONICLE Pioneer dedication that was placed there in 2007
