Room TTO8 – Fire Drill Procedures Exit the room and go left down the spiral staircases. Once on State Street, turn left and walk towards Smith Street.

Hallway Expectations: Walk in a single-file line. The teacher should walk in the back of the line to supervise students. All teachers walk their students to the next class. Stay to the right. Remain quiet. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Be respectful of displayed work and walls by refraining from touching them. No electronics visible.

Cafeteria Expectations: Have your ID ready. Wait in line to be served. Sit at your assigned tables at all times. Use voice level one. Speak with good purpose to other students and staff. Clean up after yourself. Throw away all trash in your table’s garbage can. Dump unused milk in your table’s bucket. Clean up any spills. Remain seated until your teacher arrives. Keep all food in the cafeteria.

Auditorium Expectations: Enter through your assigned door in a quiet, single-file line. Wait until the previous class is seated before having your class sit down. Sit in the first available open row unless instructed otherwise. Remain seated in a respectful manner. Speak and act respectfully. Keep all food out of auditorium. No gum. No electronics. Dismiss through the door that administrators direct you to. **At lunch time, electronics may be used in the Auditorium.

Library/Media Room/Learning Center Expectations: Enter through the main entrance closest to the spiral staircase. Have your ID and your pass ready to enter Library/Media Room/Learning Center. Use voice level one. Keep food, drinks, and gum out of the library. Speak with good purpose to other students and staff. Use a book marker when removing a book from the shelf. Return books to their designated location. Clean up after yourself. Throw away any trash and push in chairs. A universal library pass must be used during recess. It may be obtained from your homeroom teacher. Only two passes will be issued per class.

Bathroom Expectations: Sign the classroom log when you leave and when you return. Carry a hallway pass. Book bags should not be brought to the bathroom. Flush the toilet. Clean up after using the bathroom. Throw away any trash in the proper bin and clean up after yourself. Wash hands. Keep the bathroom walls and stalls clean. Avoid disruptive behavior.

School-Wide Policies and Expectations Electronic Devices: Electronics can only be used during recess. Students found using electronic devices without permission will lose the privilege for that period, and the device will be taken away until the end of the period. The second time a student is found using any electronic device it will be taken to the main office, labeled, logged, and returned at the end of the day. Any additional offences will be dealt with by Administration. Students are responsible for lost or stolen devices. Electronic devices may not be used to take pictures or videos without permission from administration.

Gum Chewing: Gum may be chewed, at the teacher’s discretion, as long as it is not interfering with the ability to learn or teach (e.g. no blowing bubbles, chewing loudly, popping, etc.) and as long as it is disposed of properly except in the following locations: Library Auditorium Computer room Band room Gym Student found using gum inappropriately will lose the privilege for that period.

Hall Passes: A hall pass must be visible at all times when a student is out of class. Students must sign the log book when leaving and returning from the class. Students must use a designated nurse’s office pass when going to the nurse. The nurse will not see students without an official nurse’s office pass. Students must use a designated guidance pass when going to the Guidance Office. Please remember if you are going to guidance a teacher must call ahead to make sure the counselor is in the office at that time.

IDs: IDs must be worn by all students and staff at all times except during gym. IDs should be visible at all times. Acceptable Language/Communication: All members of the McGinnis community will speak with good purpose to one another. Staff and students must remember to model this behavior consistently. This includes, but is not limited to, refraining from using offensive language such as insults, put-downs, curses, slurs, and disrespectful tones. Remember: What may not be offensive to you may be offensive to someone else.

Uniforms: Please Note: Students must wear ID as part of the uniform. Students are expected to wear uniforms at all times. Uniforms consist of the following: A uniform shirt. All tops must have the approved school logo. Long-sleeved shirts may be worn underneath uniform shirts. If a student chooses to wear the uniform hooded sweatshirt, the hood must remain off while the student is in the building and they must have a uniform shirt on underneath the sweatshirt. Zippered and buttoned sweaters may be worn as long as the school shirt is underneath. Solid black or solid khaki pants or skirts of appropriate length are the ONLY acceptable bottoms. Leggings as pants are not acceptable. Flip flops, hats (except with permission from Administration), bandanas and saggy pants are not part of the uniform and may not be worn at any time.

Call to Attention: Two and Two: The staff member claps twice and holds up two fingers. In response, students and staff members in the audience hold up two fingers and remain quiet. The staff member should wait until all students and other members of the audience demonstrate readiness to learn by remaining quiet and holding up two fingers.

Pledge and Announcements: During the pledge, be respectful by standing and pledging or by standing and remaining quiet. If in hall during the pledge, you must stand still, stay silent and respectful. During announcements, everyone should remain silent. Dismissal Procedure: At dismissal, teachers will walk all students out of the building.
